Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be doting parents, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t needed a little bit of help along the way. Like many people with busy lives, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were quick to find a nanny after welcoming their first child, Prince Archie, into the world in 2019.

They needed someone to look after their son when they were on royal engagements together. While they were only working royals for less than a year after Archie’s birth, the couple did manage to find a nanny for their son.

This nanny was Lorren Khumalo, a paediatric nurse and consultant who Harry and Meghan became very close with.

While Lorren has not shared much about her experience working with the couple and helping look after Archie, who is now six, she did once reveal what her first meeting with Harry and Meghan was like.

Although she expected it to be formal, especially considering she was going for a role of being a royal nanny, Lorren was surprised at what she found when she turned up at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor for the first time.

She explained that the environment was far more casual than she expected, with Harry reportedly walking around barefoot in jeans and a T-shirt rather than the suit she had expected.

alking about the first meeting with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Lorren said on The Breakfast Club with Zenzele Ndebele: “When I got there, the way he opened his arms ‘Hello Lorren!’ and gave me a hug.”

She continued: “[I thought] ‘Wow, what a gentleman, what a gem’, oh my goodness, I couldn’t believe it.

“And when I walked in and saw Meghan, I thought ‘My God, what a beautiful woman’. I just felt so comfortable, it wasn’t as formal as I expected it to be, it was just a normal home.”

Lorren enjoyed her time working with Harry and Meghan until they moved to the US in 2020, and the royal couple seemed equally as fond of her.

Talking on their self-titled Netflix docuseries in 2020, Meghan said: “She didn’t just take care of Archie, she took care of us, she definitely took care of me.”
