The thriller has a near-perfect 94% Rotten Tomatoes score

Netflix subscribers have just four days remaining to watch a ‘masterpiece’ thriller that had audiences completely hooked.

You might not be familiar with New Life but those who watched the 2023 thriller were utterly captivated.

Helmed by debut director John Rosman, the zombie film centres on Jess, an enigmatic woman frantically attempting to reach the Canadian border whilst fleeing her history.

But Jess’ escape is thwarted by determined agent Elsa, whose singular objective is to prevent her from getting away. Concealed truths about both women emerge as the intense chase develops.

A synopsis reveals: “A mysterious woman on the run, and the resourceful fixer assigned to bring her in. Their two unique stories inextricably link, as the stakes of the pursuit rise to apocalyptic proportions.”

General Hospital star Hayley Erin takes the lead role as Jess, with Lost favourite Sonya Walger playing Elsa, reports the Mirror.

Despite remaining largely unnoticed even amongst devoted horror enthusiasts, New Life proved a massive success with critics. Rotten Tomatoes reviewers granted it an outstanding 94% score, whilst audiences awarded it a 74% rating.

One enthusiastic review declares: “I enjoyed everything about this movie from the story, acting, integration of technology, moral and ethical questions, the way characters dealt with major challenges in their life, the cinematography and the soundtrack. I will definitely watch it again to see what I missed.”

Another viewer agreed: “This is an absolute masterpiece! The storytelling, acting, and cinematography are all flawless. A must-watch for any film lover!”

IMDb users were equally impressed by Rosman’s directorial debut. “I could not look away; it hit me in all the right ways, from suspense to excitement to emotion,” remarked one reviewer.

“Honestly feels like the kind of movie English students could be studying in a few years time. There’s a lot here for a variety of movie-buffs, so I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a blind watch. Even if it doesn’t tickle you the same way, you’re still likely to find something that resonates.”

A further viewer enthused: “This movie is incredible. I first thought it was a thriller, then it took me by surprise again and again with another twist and another one. It is 10/10 bc it finally was a movie that genuinely kept my eyes glued to the screen.”

One audience member drew comparisons to the much-loved horror drama The Last of Us, writing: “The major plot twist here is rather reminiscent of TV’s The Last of Us.”

Without giving away the ending, Netflix subscribers would be wise to stream this gripping thriller sooner rather than later before it disappears from the platform.
