EXCLUSIVE: A resurfaced collage comparing Meghan Markle to Princess Diana has reignited a long-simmering fashion debate.

For more than five years, Meghan Markle’s wardrobe has been scrutinised, dissected, and repeatedly compared to that of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. From sharp tailoring to carefully chosen colour palettes, the perceived parallels have fuelled one of the most enduring fashion debates of the modern royal era.
Now, as a Diana-inspired collage resurfaces online, the discussion has once again reached a fever pitch. At the centre of it is royal fashion expert Rebecca, the voice behind the influential X account @remisagoodboy.
Having studied the Duchess of Sussex’s style evolution from the very beginning, Rebecca has meticulously tracked Meghan’s public appearances, private fashion choices, and the visual cues that, in her view, consistently echo Diana’s most iconic looks.
According to the expert, these fashion parallels are neither accidental nor isolated, but part of a pattern years in the making.
After examining the viral collage, the question many are asking is whether Meghan’s, 44, style reflects a woman confidently shaping her own fashion identity – or one leaning too heavily on those around her. Rebecca’s assessment is unflinching.
In an exclusive interview with the Express, she shared, “Unfortunately, I believe that Meghan always looks to others for style. As we know, it isn’t just Diana or Princess Catherine.
“At different periods of her life, Meghan seems to rely heavily on the style and taste of those in her world or those she admires.”
Rebecca continued: “I have noticed that during Meghan’s days in Toronto; a lot of her looks mimicked her then close friend Jessica Mulroney. Over the past year or two, I now see Meghan is mirroring a lot of clothing and even the hairstyle of friend Kelly McKee Zajfen.”

But it is Diana, Rebecca believes, who remains the most deliberate reference point. She added: “I do believe this is intentional as Meghan wants these comparisons to be made.”
Fashion, after all, is cyclical, and royal dressing is steeped in symbolism – a point the expert readily acknowledges. However, she argues that Meghan’s approach crosses a visible line.
“Meghan, seems to take it to a much different level. From her mirrored body language, to certain color combinations or choice in accessories.”
Drawing on specific examples, Rebecca cited, “of her purple and red outfit worn in Birkenhead back in 2019, the deliberate sunglasses placement in Rwanda or the entire outfit, right down to the shoes worn in Nigeria during the last morning and flight home.”

In Rebecca’s view, these are not subtle references but conscious recreations. The suggestion that Meghan’s fashion choices are strategically curated for maximum impact is one the expert does not shy away from.
“This is one hundred percent for public impact. Let’s not forget the old adage ‘Bad Press is still Press’ and moves like these keep her in the press and a hot topic on social media.”
In a media landscape where image functions as currency, fashion becomes a narrative device – and Diana remains one of the most potent symbols available.
But does this strategy ultimately work? According to Rebecca, the long-term effect may be damaging.

“This completely undermines any credibility. I have read that Meghan wants to establish herself as a prominent figure in the fashion world, but to do so she really needs to figure out who she is first and foremost.”
Rather than elevating the Duchess as a fashion force in her own right, the comparisons risk freezing her in someone else’s shadow. Rebecca believes Meghan’s strongest style moments emerge when she steps away from symbolism and leans into authenticity.
“I think her style should reflect who she is; A mother of two, a business woman and whether people like it or not, a celebrity.
She should lean into the California designers that she enjoys and sometimes showcases, but she does need to introduce a little more colour into her wardrobe.”
