The Princess of Wales, 44, stopped by the University of East London in Stratford on Wednesday, May 6, where she met with researchers, students and other figures in U.K. higher education as she prepares to launch Foundations for Life: A Guide to Social and Emotional Development, a new resource for those working with young children from the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

Princess Kate spoke with children and families during her visit, and she had a relatable moment while discussing research included in the guide with the mother of a young child.

“It does take energy and effort to go and actually find that village, and what we’re really hoping to do is try and make that easier for families,” she said in a clip shared to X by GB News’ Cameron Walker.

The royal continued, “For mums and all parents to try and have access to that really important information and that guidance, but in a more tangible way from those interactions that they have, whether that’s through the health service or through the educational system.”

Foundations for Life is just the latest project from Kate, a mom of three who is passionate about early childhood development. She shares Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8, with her husband, Prince William.

The princess kept her kids close during her Wednesday visit, wearing a gold necklace from Daniella Draper with the charms G, C and L in a nod to her three children. Even her earrings included a special shout-out to George, Charlotte and Louis: the heart earrings included three engraved diamond starbursts.

Kate’s Foundations for Life emphasizes the “vital role of loving, responsive relationships in shaping children’s lifelong health and well-being,” according to Kensington Palace.

The guide will be available through the Centre for Early Childhood’s website in an effort to make it easier for professionals to access key research and tools. The princess wrote in an introduction to the guide, “Now is the moment to place care and connection at the heart of all we do, and to shape a future in which love can truly flourish.”

She added, “In a world which feels increasingly distracted, fragmented and digital, where life’s pace, noise and interruptions can be overwhelming, I believe it is more important than ever to invest in what truly helps us to thrive: human connection.”

Her Wednesday outing comes shortly after Kate announced her plans to travel to Reggio Emilia in northern Italy on May 13 and 14 as part of a fact-finding trip focused on early childhood. The visit marks her first overseas work engagement since her cancer diagnosis. The princess announced she was in remission in early 2025.
