Fans of spine-chilling thrillers are in for a delight as a highly praised psychological thriller is now available to stream at no cost.
The film, part of a collection of Scottish thrillers and starring familiar faces such as The Revenge Club’s Martin Compston and Tony Curran, centres around a CCTV operator who spots a man from her past on her screens.
Set in Balornock, Glasgow, the movie is titled Red Road and takes its name from, and is partially set within, the Red Road Flats – once the tallest residential structures in Europe.
Kate Dickie portrays Jackie Morrison, who recognises a man she observes on the CCTV monitor and starts to probe into his life.
Without revealing too much, Jackie and the man share a sorrowful past. The film boasts an impressive 87 per cent rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, with critics describing it as “engrossing” and “seductive”.

Viewers have also taken to IMDb reviews to express their opinions on the film, which can be streamed for free on PLEX.
1MOscarbradley hailed it as “one of the best British films in a very long time”, adding: “Debut director Andrea Arnold’s Red Road is still a remarkable original and if the ending is perhaps more conventional than the build-up would have us believe it still packs quite an emotional punch.
“Arnold’s film works on several levels, not least as a gripping psychological thriller. What is her interest in this man? What in their pasts connects them?”
They added: “Arnold finally resolves these issues in a moving, understated and realistic fashion where a more obvious ‘thriller’ would have taken a more melodramatic route.

“In reaching this resolution Arnold is, of course, greatly helped by her own honest, beautifully written script and terrific performances, not only from Dickie, but also from Tony Curran as the man she has set her sights on.”
Theiinteam described the film as “moving”, explaining: “An intimate and moving portrayal of characters both devastated and desperate.
“Performances are very subtle, yet brimming with emotion, so much so that some scenes are really quite uncomfortable to watch.
“Direction is also brilliant and the low budget restrictions really do not show. Also a very successful portrayal of the way many people in Glasgow live.”
Luckyfay praised it as “a lovely film that truly surprises”, adding: “The film keeps you off balance throughout because you are not told what to think of events; they simply unfold without explanation until the events themselves necessitate dialogue between the two main characters.
“Not knowing becomes rather vexing because you are always trying to figure out why the protagonist does so much that you feel is wrong, but it’s all just part of the fun. And the kind of storytelling I enjoy most.”
