Kady McDermott has hit out at those in Dubai who are abandoning their pets to flee the city. Over the weekend, people across the world were left in fear after the USA and Israel launched strikes on Iran. The strikes saw unprecedented retaliation from Iran, which responded by attacking various locations across the Middle East including Tehran, Beirut and the United Arab Emirates.

But Kady, 30, who shot to fame when she took part in the second series of Love Island in 2016 before making a comeback in 2023, has lashed out at those who leave their cats and dogs behind and insisted she would not be doing the same if she was in a similar situation.

She said: “I would genuinely stay through a war zone in order to stay with my dogs. People knock me sick!!!! When he’s always anxious of the world but being with me is his safe place. People fleeing Dubai after the recent drone and missile strikes are abandoning their pets. Animal shelters and vets say they’re being flooded with requests to euthanize healthy cats and dogs because owners can’t take them when they leave!”

It all comes after Kady’s fellow Love Islander Arabella Chi, who appeared on the fifth series of the hit ITV2 dating show, opened up about life as a resident of Dubai amid the chaos. During an appearance on Monday’s edition of Good Morning Britain, she explained to Ed Balls and Susanna Reid, revealed that she and her partner have cleared out a storage cupboard in case they need to take refuge.

She said: “Obviously they’re saying at the moment to stay away from the windows, obviously, I’m near a window right now. But yesterday, we cleared out our storage cupboard.

“We are in a house that has a lot of windows, obviously at night, you can’t get away with it as such but in our storage cupboard there isn’t any windows so if we did hear a bang that’s where we would go but so far we haven’t had to do that.

However, the model has nothing but praise for how the government in the Emirates are handling the situation. She said: “It’s a very, very scary time at the minute. It’s obviously apprehensive because we don’t know what’s coming but we’re in good hands.

“The government have been amazing. It’s been scary but we’re safe, which is the main thing. Obviously on Saturday afternoon, we were on The Palm and that’s when we first heard the bang.

“We saw everyone on their phones and that’s when the news was announced that there were interceptions right. That was the most scared I’ve ever been in my life, obviously you don’t know how many are coming and it’s very, very scary.”

She added: “I think we had literally just gone past The Palm and we heard that bang, we saw, obviously, the aftermath in the sky of the interception and we obviously saw in the news a few minutes later that obviously the Fairmont hotel was hit.”
