A police officer has resigned following controversy over body-worn camera footage from the Henry Nowak murder case, which shows the dying 18-year-old saying “I’ve been stabbed” while an officer responds “don’t think you have” in Southampton
Bodycam footage of Henry Nowak being arrested after being stabbed has sparked outrage
An officer connected to the Henry Nowak case has stepped down from their position.
The 18 year old student was fatally stabbed by 23 year old Vickrum Digwa in Southampton on December 3 2025. Distressing footage captured him being handcuffed while he lay dying.
Digwa falsely told police he had been subjected to a racist attack. He was found guilty of murder this week.
A Hampshire Police spokesperson has confirmed today that one of the officers involved has resigned. They stated: “Three of the officers are still serving, one officer has resigned. As the IOPC has confirmed, they are all being treated as witnesses, so not subject to any current restrictions.”

Body-worn camera footage from the incident shows Mr Nowak repeatedly stating: “I’ve been stabbed,” to which an officer responds: “Don’t think you have, mate.”, reports the Mirror.
Sir Keir Starmer said he “felt sick” viewing the footage of police handcuffing Mr Nowak, adding that there are “serious questions” requiring answers about the case. The Prime Minister stated that an examination is needed into how “accusations of racism” influenced the police’s decision-making.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is anticipated to publish its findings on the case within the coming three months. Investigators are said to be reviewing substantial body-worn video footage as well as evidence presented during Digwa’s trial. Sir Keir stated: “It is absolutely right that the IOPC are looking at this… There are clearly serious questions that need to be addressed, not least how accusations of racism informed the decision-making in this case.”

Digwa received a life sentence with a minimum term of 21 years for stabbing Mr Nowak with a ceremonial knife bearing a 21cm blade, which was referred to in court as a “Sikh dagger”.
Addressing the Commons this afternoon, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood insisted that “we cannot allow this murder to turn communities against one another”, adding: “We condemn those who committed this heinous crime, not all those who share their faith or their ethnicity.”
Following Digwa’s sentencing on Monday, Mr Nowak’s father Mark Nowak said: “We do not want his death to be used to create further division, hatred or tension.”
