Prince Harry has made four huge mistakes – William reconciliation is now near impossible

OPINION: Prince Harry in Therapy has landed on Channel 5 – and it made me feel unexpectedly emotional.

Prince Harry has remained estranged from the Royal Family since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down as senior royals and moved to California in 2020. And from the looks of things, this won’t change any time soon. A new Channel 5 documentary, Prince Harry in Therapy, which focuses on his upbringing with Prince William, his parents’ divorce, his mother, Princess Diana’s, untimely death, and his marriage, has highlighted some of the mistakes Harry has made along the way. And sitting down to watch it, the main takeaway I had from the show was how sad it was that Harry had let his relationship with William and Kate go.

About halfway through the documentary, we are told that Meghan encouraged Harry to have therapy sessions, as did his brother, Prince William, and his sister-in-law, Princess Kate. An archived clip of Kate, William and Harry speaking about their mental health really resonated with me. Harry’s sitting opposite his older brother, admitting how difficult it was to talk about his late mother, saying: “I always thought to myself, what is the point in bringing up the past and bringing up something that is only going to make you sad?”

The Prince and Princess of Wales listened intently during the heartbreaking moment as part of their Heads Together campaign, and it made me comprehend just how tragic it is that the brothers no longer share a bond like they used to. William, Kate and Harry used to have a magical bond which the UK loved to see, and it is sad that they are likely to never regain that trust again. Many people would say this was down to Harry, and his inability to listen to his brother’s advice.

Clips were then aired of the brothers bantering about their appearances and dancing skills, making me remember just how close they used to be and how much the nation adored them as a duo.

However, the documentary’s tone dramatically shifted as footage aired of Harry revealing that William allegedly had concerns about him marrying Meghan. According to royal expert Jennie Bond, William’s suggestion that Harry was moving too fast with the American actress caused a rift which has never been mended. And everyone knows that Harry’s tendency to run to the press to speak out of turn has done irrevocable damage.

A bombshell Tom Brady interview, in which Harry essentially confirmed his fractured relationship with William, then aired before the controversial topic of Megxit arose, which furthered the fracture between the brothers, and sparked concerns that trouble was afoot.

A lot happened after the Sussexes’ move to the US, including Harry and Meghan sensationally deciding to offload to Oprah Winfrey about the Royal Family, the pair appearing in a six-part Netflix documentary that hinted at friction between William, and the Duke dropping a tell-all memoir called Spare.

Within the explosive book, Harry even details an alleged physical altercation between him and his brother in a shocking decision to reveal the most private of details to the world about his family.

Royal Author Tom Quinn pointed out in the documentary: “He’s gained strength and resilence, but he’s lost his family. In some ways, the whole of his life will be torture.”

I’d love Harry to reconnect with his only brother William, but the documentary just confirmed to me that it is likely an impossible request as the damage has been done on Harry’s side.
