A former Strictly Come Dancing alumn has revealed who the next host of the BBC dance competition needs to be. Veteran broadcasters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman stepped down from the beloved BBC dance competition last year after 21 years at the helm. But after more than two decades on the glittering ballroom, they decided it was time to hang up their sparkling microphones.
Since their departures, viewers have been speculating about who will replace the hosting icons. On Friday night (April 24), British astrologer Russell Grant took to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share who he believes the next best presenter would be.
He penned: “I’m in no doubt that the best presenter for Strictly is the wonderful Alexander Armstrong. He sings, he’s funny, and he’s warm and kind to all.” It didn’t take long before fans flocked to the comments to share their thoughts on his prediction.
One user penned: “I agree, but he’s not bubbly enough. I think Dermot O’Leary is a good choice.” Another agreed: “I thought he’d be good too. Natural presenter, subtly funny and, as you say, he can sing. What’s not to love?”
It comes after nine potential presenters have been shortlisted to step into Tess and Claudia’s shoes, with reports suggesting the selected candidates are being called to a secret London location this week. According to reports, those in contention will go head-to-head during a full-scale run-through of the show, complete with the entire judging panel and a live band.
It is understood nine familiar faces have undergone auditions and chemistry tests this week to determine who will helm the nation’s favourite dance show. Those involved have reportedly signed non-disclosure agreements, barring them from revealing their participation, according to the Mirror.

A source said: “It’s not just about reading autocue. They’ll be back looking at how people work together, and humour is a massive part of it. There’s everything to play for.”
It is further reported that Strictly’s executive producer, Sarah James, and the BBC’s head of entertainment, Kalpna Patel-Knight, will be keeping a close eye on all those taking part. Meanwhile, Matt Brittin, who is set to join the BBC as director general, will also be kept informed throughout the process.
The source went on to tell The Sun: “Strictly is the crown jewel of the BBC. With Claudia and Tess now gone, it needs to be handled with the utmost care. Bosses are taking a very keen interest.”
