The former footballer was punished on the ITV series for sneaking salt packets into the camp

I’m A Celebrity star Alex Scott has said ‘they were in on it’ as she broke her silence on the contraband controversy surrounding her on the ITV reality show.

The former Lioness, who played 140 games for her country and made over 200 club appearances, became the first contestant sent home from the Australian jungle on Friday night (November 28). Alex was at risk of elimination due to her failing to beat EastEnders actress Shona McGarty in the drinking trial.

The first live trial in five saw the twelve campmates going up in pairs and having to race one another in drinking unpleasant milkshakes. Those who won the challenge received their dinner and immunity from the public vote.

Viewers had to decide whether to save the former footballer, Ozzy Osbourne’s son Jack Osbourne, musician Martin Kemp, Manchester streamer Angry Ginge, rapper Aitch, Loose Women’s Kelly Brook or American comedian Ruby Wax.

When it was time for Ant and Dec to reveal who was going home, the final two were Alex and Kelly. Sadly for the former Arsenal player and England international, she received the least amount of votes from the public.

Making her way up to Ant and Dec’s presenting shack, where they host I’m A Celebrity live, Alex apologised to the Newcastle presenting duo. She said: “Sorry if I stink… It doesn’t feel real, you just live in that moment with the campmates…

“It’s been such an incredible experience. Mentally, I did struggle missing home, but Im so glad I got to do this series with such a great bunch of campmates.” She added: “It’s tough in there – constantly going to get water and firewood.”

Noting that she didn’t expect to have such a good time in the jungle, Alex was asked about being caught with contraband. Alex landed in hot water with the I’m A Celebrity bosses when she was caught shaking something into her campmates dinner dishes, which was being prepared by Jack.

It turned out that it wasn’t just the crocodile feet she made more flavoursome, but had gotten away with it for over a week. With contraband strictly forbidden from camp, the following night’s episode saw the campmates stripped of a star which was won by Aitch in the following Bushtucker Trial.

Additionally, campmates were informed that there was a contraband amnesty and they had the opportunity to surrender all smuggled goods without facing further punishment.

Saying that she ‘just grabbed a load’ of salt packets before arriving in camp, Alex noted: “I just grabbed a load of salt. I put them in my sock. My campmates were in on it. And now every day they wish they had salt.”

When it comes to who she wants to win the series, Alex is backing her close friend Shona to become queen of the jungle. The Whitney Dean actress has also been close with Aitch in the jungle, with viewers suggesting that romance may be on the cards.

“Shona, I think Ginge and Aitch are great, amazing, to see them in the final, but to see Shona being made Queen of the Jungle would change her and give her the confidence to be brilliant at life”, Alex said.
