Netflix’s The Night Agent confirms end of series amid dwindled viewership

The Night Agent, which stars Gabriel Basso, premiered in 2023 and is coming to an end with its fourth season

The fourth installment of the Netflix hit, which went into production this week, will officially be its last, the streamer has confirmed.

The thriller, which stars Gabriel Basso, premiered in 2023 and follows an FBI agent following a deadly conspiracy of a mole in the White House.

“Ever since the initial success of The Night Agent, I’ve been obsessed with eventually delivering a proper and thrilling conclusion to the show and to Peter Sutherland’s journey,” said series creator Shawn Ryan in a statement.

“I’m so grateful to Netflix and Sony Pictures Television for partnering with me on The Night Agent and for giving us the space to deliver a definitive final season to our worldwide legion of fans,” he continued, adding: “We are hard at work to complete our story and to make our final season one our fans will never forget.”

Lead star Gabriel, who stars as Peter Sutherland, has yet to comment on the show’s ending.

Netflix dropped the entirety of season three of The Night Agent on February 19, 2026. An official synopsis reads: “Night Agent Peter Sutherland is called in to track down a young Treasury Agent who fled to Istanbul with sensitive government intel after killing his boss.  This kicks off a sequence of events where Peter investigates a dark money network while avoiding its paid assassins, while putting him on a collision course with a relentless journalist. Working together, they uncover buried secrets and old grudges that threaten to bring the government to its knees — and get them both killed in the process.”

Though The Night Agent was an instant hit for Netflix when it first premiered in 2023, viewership fell off in later seasons.

Its debut season landed in the Netflix global top 10 English-language TV chart for 17 weeks in 2023, and became the most-watched show on the platform for the first half of 2023.

Season two then ranked number nine in the first half of 2025, however season three entered the top 10 for just four weeks when it was released earlier this year.

In addition to Gabriel, also known for his roles in Hillbilly Elegy, A House of Dynamite, and The Strangers, The Night Agent also stars Fola Evans-Akingbola, Luciane Buchanan, Louis Herthum, and Albert Jones, among others.

Its writer Shawn, who also serves as the creator, executive producer, and showrunner, is also known for his work on S.W.A.T., Timeless, and The Shield.
