alling all crime thriller fans! HBO Max’s new six-part crime series Privilèges is currently trending, and it’s one to add to your watchlist if you’re after a high-stakes plot starring impressive young talent.

The first episode of the French-language series landed on HBO Max on Friday, and it’s already climbed into the platform’s top ten most-watched shows, leaving viewers clamouring for the next instalment.

With some comparing it to Industry and The White LotusPrivilèges follows a young prisoner, Adèle, who accepts a job as a bellhop at a luxurious hotel in Paris.

HBO Max has built an impressive roster of binge-worthy shows for UK audiences, including The PittThe Comeback, Euphoria and DTF St. Louis. What is Privilèges about?

The show is created by Marie Monge and Vladimir de Fontenay, and centres on a young inmate, Adèle.

The synopsis reads: “Young inmate Adèle Charki (Manon Bresch) desperately accepts a bellhop position at the palatial Citadel as part of a day-release program run by the hotel’s all-powerful director, Édouard Galzain (Melvil Poupaud).

“But shortly after arriving for her first shift, Adèle is thrust into a not-so-secret power struggle where ambitious staff, influential guests, and outside networks all fight for control – turning the hotel into a breeding ground of manipulation and betrayal.

“As her relationship with Édouard quickly morphs into something more sinister, Adèle’s grit and ambition are crucial for her survival as she fights for a chance to redeem her future.”

Who stars in Privilèges?

Manon Bresch (Wingwomen) stars as Adèle Charki, while Melvil Poupaud (Laurence Anyways) plays Édouard Galzain.

They’re joined by Zar Amir Ebrahimi (Tatami) as Amal Petmani and Roxane Mesquida (Gossip Girl).

What have viewers said about Privilèges?

While the show has yet to receive a Rotten Tomatoes score, the initial response from viewers has been positive. At the time of writing, it sits at number seven in HBO Max’s most-watched TV chart.

“The first episode of Privileges sets up a whole lot of story threads and potential explosive relationships that promise to be both sexy and dangerous, all in the elegant setting of a luxury hotel in Paris,” wrote Decider.
