Drug Crisis Blows Up Professional Image
Just as fans were counting down to the new season of Strictly Come Dancing, a storm of drug scandal hit, severely threatening the show’s national reputation. Shocking news revealed earlier this month that the BBC had launched an urgent investigation into alleged cocaine use involving two of the show’s stars.
While the BBC media corporation asserts it has “clear protocols and policies in place” for dealing with serious complaints, veteran host Tess Daly is reportedly “horrified” and deeply disappointed by the unfolding chaos.
Media Disaster: “Not the Kind of Headline Tess Daly Wants”

According to a source close to the host, who spoke to Closer, given Strictly‘s already messy history of scandals in recent years, Tess Daly is allegedly far from happy about yet another scandal breaking into the public domain right before the 2025 series.
“Tess is horrified. She’s worked hard to build a reputation as one of the most professional and polished figures on British television, and this is not the kind of headline she ever wanted to be connected to,” the source claimed. “Being dragged into this mess – even by association – is deeply embarrassing for her.”
The 56-year-old host is known to be fiercely private and holds herself to high standards. This continuous scandal has “shaken her confidence” in the Strictly brand, making it feel like the show is currently “scandal after scandal.”
The New Line-Up: A Glimmer of Hope or a New Curse?
Despite the shadow cast over the production, the organizers have proceeded to announce the list of celebrities joining the 2025 series, in an apparent effort to maintain fan excitement:
Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (Gladiators star), the first celebrity revealed.
Dani Dyer (Love Island, daughter of actor Danny Dyer).
Alex Kingston (Successful veteran actress since the 1980s).
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (Former professional football manager and player).
Balvinder Sopal (EastEnders actress, playing Suki Panesar), the latest name added to the mix.
Will the introduction of this new cast be powerful enough to quell the wave of negativity, or will it only plunge Strictly Come Dancing deeper into a season rife with instability? All eyes are now focused on the BBC and Tess Daly.
