The series is based on an acclaimed novel and said to be like nothing else on TV

What some regard as the ‘best series ever made’, based on an award-winning novel, is now available to stream on Netflix.

In the latest major addition to the platform’s catalogue, all episodes of The Man In The High Castle have been made available on the service.

Whilst it originally launched as a Prime Video exclusive back in 2015, the show ran for four seasons until 2019.

It is an alternate history period drama, loosely adapted from the novel of the same name written by Phillip K. Dick.

The author was amongst the most acclaimed sci-fi writers, with numerous works adapted for the screen, including films such as Blade Runner, Minority Report and Total Recall.

The narrative explores what the world might resemble had the outcome of World War II been different. In this dystopian vision, the Axis powers emerged victorious, resulting in the United States being partitioned into three sections: a Japanese-controlled territory, a Nazi-controlled region, and a neutral zone separating the two , reports the Mirror.

Despite the tyranny, fresh hope surfaces when films emerge that appear to depict an alternative reality. A woman is convinced the films hold the secret to liberation and becomes determined to locate their enigmatic protector as she starts establishing a resistance movement.

The series was developed for television by Frank Spotnitz, who previously served as a writer on The X Files. Alien director Ridley Scott acted as an executive producer.

It holds an 84% rating on website Rotten Tomatoes. One reviewer described it as: “a superb, frightening experience filled with unexpected twists and (some sci-fi) turns.”

A different critic wrote: “unlike anything else on television, impeccably acted and packed with vivid, multi-layered characters, gut-wrenching twists and dark, dark moments of human misery”.

The programme would continue for three additional seasons and years following the final episode’s release, numerous fans still regard it as amongst the finest historical fiction shows. One went as far as to declare on Rotten Tomatoes that it was “one of the best shows ever made.”

Another stated: “a haunting alternative history vision implemented in a extremely authentic fashion.”

Whilst a third admitted how they became captivated upon discovering the series for the first time. They said: “Beyond impressed, stayed up until 2am on a week day… I decided to squeeze in the pilot. Needless to say, seven episodes later I was still watching.”

They continued: “The storyline is incredible. The acting is great. The emotions that it brought out of me was real and raw. It made me appreciate and think differently about the word/idea/concept that we all throw around ‘FREEDOM’” Yes, it’s fictional, and yes it’s just a TV-show, but boy they hit on something, at least in me. I’m beyond impressed!”

Someone else remarked: “This is the best series since Breaking Bad. I think every one under the age of 40 needs to see this.”
