An Australian man has died in a tragic incident in Bali following a night out drinking.

Emergency services were called to a hotel situated in the popular tourist hub of Seminyak about 4.15am on Wednesday after the man’s girlfriend went out onto their second-storey balcony and found him barely breathing.

The Australian, aged 30, has only been identified by the initials JRTC.

The pair had checked into the hotel on Saturday and they were due to check out later on Wednesday.

Witnesses said the man had arrived back at the hotel in the early morning on Wednesday – about 1.30am – after visiting a nearby bar to drink.

The couple were heard arguing and police said the man went to sleep on the room’s balcony while his partner slept in the bed.

She woke up about 4.15am to check on JRTC and found him suspended from the balcony by a bed sheet tied around his neck.

‘The victim’s girlfriend immediately reported (the situtaion) to the hotel staff,’ Denpasar Police spokesperson Gede Adi Saputra Jaya said.
