Ayoung Canadian woman found dead on K’gari on Monday morning was surrounded by a pack of dingoes, police have confirmed.

The 19-year-old woman was found unresponsive on 75 Mile Beach on the eastern side of K’gari early on Monday morning at about 6.30am.

According to Queensland Police, initial information indicates the woman may have gone for a swim around 5am.

Police are not yet speculating on her cause of death, however they did say her body had been “interfered with” by the dingoes.

Two men had been driving south from near Orchard beach and had seen the large pack of approximately 10 dingoes near an object. On closer inspection, they saw that it was the young woman.

“It was obviously a very traumatic and horrific scene for them to uncover,” Inspector Paul Algie said.

“The woman’s body had been touched and interfered with by the dingoes, but we’re not speculating yet as to whether that was anything to do with her cause of death.

“We simply can’t confirm whether this young lady drowned or died as a result of being attacked by dingoes.”

The woman had been working at a backpackers’ on K’gari, formerly known as Fraser Island, for the past six weeks.

Her body was transferred to mainland Queensland on Monday afternoon.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have relevant information, including dash cam vision or witnessed anything to come forward.
