THE heartbroken family of tragic Scarlett Faulkner have called for mourners to release balloons for her at her home this evening.

The event will take place at the family’s site at 5pm in a touching “dedication to Scarlett” with the family asking for lilac, purple, gold and pink balloons to be released.

The 29-year-old’s life support was switched off on Sunday after weeks in hospital following the alleged assault at the side of the R494 road in Birdhill, Co Tipperary, on March 21.

Scarlett’s heart remained beating for some time after the machine was switched off but her family confirmed she passed away on Monday.

Before her funeral mass on Friday friends and family will gather this evening.

In a post on social media today they said: “Family and Friends are doing a balloon release today at Scarlett’s Home site at 5pm. A dedication for Scarlett.

“Asking that the balloon Colours be lilac purple gold and pink. Please send your videos if doing.”

Dozens rushed to share purple and pink hearts under a social media post detailing the moving tribute to Scarlett this evening.

Several mourners who won’t be able to attend added that they would be lighting candles and saying a prayer for the young mum at 5pm.

The Limerick mum will be laid to rest on Friday, three weeks after she sustained serious head injuries, a member of her family confirmed.

She will repose at Cross’s Funeral Home, Lower Gerald Griffin Street, Limerick city on Thursday, April 16 from 2pm to 4pm.

Her funeral Mass will take place on Friday at 11am in St Munchin’s Church, Clancy Strand. Scarlett will be buried in Meelick Cemetery following the Mass.

Confirming her death on Monday the young woman’s family paid tribute to the “precious beautiful girl”.

They added: “The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has kept Scarlett in their prayers, sent loving messages, and offered support over the past few weeks.

“Your kindness has meant more to them than words can say.”

Fr Pat Hogan, who was with the Faulkner family after Scarlett’s death, said they want to lay her to rest with “dignity”.

He told RTE‘s News at One yesterday: “They’ve been deeply shocked for the last three weeks.

“And I suppose the parents especially, they never expect to have to accept this and as the parents said to me, having somebody dying in a car accident is one thing but dying like this that has really upset them and continues to upset them.”

Fr Hogan added that the family have “great memories” of Scarlett and want to “remember her in peace”.

He continued: “They’re people of great faith which is a comfort to them and they now say that she has gone home to a place of love, a place of God, and that God will look after her.”

“It is an unreal, bewildering shock for them to have to go this journey. But they won’t be alone, there’ll be a lot of people there and we’ll do the best we can with them and for them.”

Scarlett’s family have asked for privacy as they “come to terms with saying goodbye to their precious girl”.

A social media post shared on their behalf said: “The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has kept Scarlett in their prayers, sent loving messages, and offered support over the past few weeks.

“Your kindness has meant more to them than words can say.

“They ask that we all continue to pray for Scarlett, that her gentle soul is received into the loving arms of God and granted eternal peace and a soft bed in Heaven.”

A 16-year-old girl and a woman in her 40s have both appeared in court in relation to the alleged assault last month.
