Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, will take over the reins of the reeling nation after Donald Trump blasted the cleric a “lightweight”.

The US president has previously said that Iran would be “wasting their time” by appointing Mojtaba, adding: “Khamenei’s son is unacceptable to me.

“We want someone that will bring harmony and peace to Iran.”

Apocalyptic scenes gripped the Iranian capital after Israeli jets hammered key fuel sites late Saturday, unleashing huge explosions and towering fireballs across the skyline.

The strikes hit Tehran’s vast Shahran oil depot, a critical fuel hub supplying gasoline to the city’s nine million residents.

Massive explosions ripped through fuel storage complexes, sending towering flames and thick orange smoke pouring into the sky after the Israeli military targeted energy sites used by Iran’s forces.

Shocking video shows thick pillars of bright orange flames lighting up the sky as fire tears through the sprawling sites.

Thick black smoke and towering flames continued to billow from the Shahran Oil Depot in northern Tehran early this morning.

The Shahran depot serves as a primary fuel distribution hub for Tehran’s roughly nine million residents, storing gasoline and other petroleum products in vast tanks.

Iranian officials confirmed the facility was directly targeted, while the Israeli Defense Forces stated the sites were used by Iran’s armed forces.

Flames were sent screaming down residential streets in Iran as leaking petroleum from the blitzed depot ignited.
