A DAUGHTER screamed “my mum’s been killed” after a woman in her 70s died after being attacked by two dogs.

Cops raced to a property in Wolverhampton after receiving reports the woman was being attacked on Wednesday night.

A 37-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death.

Police said they do not believe the dogs to belong to a banned breed.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the woman was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The two dogs had to be destroyed due to their “continued aggression”, cops added.

Neighbours said they heard “blood curdling“ screams and loud barking as the dogs went for the pensioner in a ground floor flat of Bilston, near Wolverhampton, late on Wednesday evening.

A large front window at the property has been boarded over temporarily and friends and family members gathered at the scene.

Several bunches of flowers had been laid against an outside wall at the building.

Neighbour Sam Wright, 64, said: “She couldn’t have fended him off as she was very weak, they were big dogs.

“I heard the daughter on the front say to someone distinctly ‘my mum’s been killed by the dogs’.

“I’ve seen people from the housing association taking in mops in there today and all the cleaning stuff.”

They added that the owner of the dogs “they think is her grandson” and they used to “drag him up the street”.

“I used to see them and they’d be dragging him. He was only a thin bloke,” they continued.

“They were a similar to a rottweiler, they had those features. One was more tan coloured.

“I last saw her yesterday afternoon about 3pm. She just had a bag with her.”

One local, who asked not to be named, said: “I was getting ready for bed and suddenly there was a lot of barking coming from the property.

“Next thing I heard the most awful bloodcurdling screams coming from inside.

“There was a lot of shouting too. It sounded like the dogs were completely out of control. The poor woman must have been putting up a hell of a fight, but clearly they were too strong for her.”

They added: “I’m always very nervous when I pass them in the street and will usually make sure to cross to the other side of the road.”
