AN ISRAELI stealth fighter jet has gunned down a manned Iranian war plane over Tehran in a major show of force.
The Israeli Defence Force declared it is the first time an F-35I fighter jet had shot down a manned aircraft in history.

It marks the first dogfight of the Middle Eastern conflict, which broke out after the United States and Israel coordinated a blitz of Iran on Saturday.
The fighter jet known as “Adir,” which translates to “Mighty One” in Hebrew,” clashed with the Iranian Air Force YAK-130, in skies over the Iranian capital.
It is believed to be the first time that Israel has carried out an air-to-air kill in four decades.
In 1985, an IDF F-15 gunned down two Syrian MiG-23s over Lebanon during the “War of the Camps”.
Israel earlier confirmed they were carrying out “broad-scale” strikes across Tehran.
Tel Aviv has continued to bombard targets across the Middle East as part of a joint US operation.
Residents in southern Lebanon were earlier ordered to evacuate “immediately” as strikes on Beirut intensify.
Lebanon was dragged into the conflict on Monday after Hezbollah fired rockers and drones into northern Israel, sparking a wave of retaliatory strikes that killed more than 50 and wounded 300.
Israel confirmed today that Iran and its proxy Lebanon carrier out their first wave of coordinated attacks.
The IDF said one missile was launched by Tehran while a further six projectiles – including drones – were fired by Hezbollah.
The attack set off red alert sirens in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
Iran has issued a fresh warning to nemesis Israel, vowing to widen its revenge strikes if diplomats are attacked in Lebanon.
People in Tehran woke up to dawn blasts, with the cities ruined broadcast by Iranian state television.

Authorities were forced to postpone the mourning ceremony for late Supreme tyrant Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the initial bombing raid.
Iran has claimed the war’s death toll has reached 1,045 since it began trading blows with the West.
Meanwhile, Turkey‘s Defence Ministry said NATO defences intercepted a ballistic missile launched from the rogue state before it entered its airspace.
It comes as an Iranian warship was sunk in the Indian Ocean by a US submarine, according to American officials.
Nearly 150 people are still missing, several are dead and dozens are wounded following the submarine attack on Iranian warship IRIS Dena.
Sri Lanka’s defence ministry said it was still searching for other unaccounted crew, after the ship was downed around 25 miles south of the island.
“We are keeping up a search, but we don’t know yet what happened to the rest of the crew,” an official said.
Sri Lanka’s navy said “a few bodies” were pulled from the water.
Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said 32 “critically injured” Iranian sailors were taken to a major hospital in Galle, 115 kilometres south of the capital Colombo.
A Sri Lankan navy source, who declined to be named, said one of the people brought to the hospital had died.
