Music and TV legend Martin Kemp has opened up about his emotional fears that he may be snubbed from son Roman’s future wedding. In a candid moment, he admitted the thought of not being part of the big day “breaks his heart.”

Music icon Martin Kemp has candidly expressed to his wife Shirlie, 62, that they “can’t be heartbroken” about the prospect of their children opting for intimate, private weddings away from the public eye. The couple, who are parents to former radio DJ Roman, 31, and singer Harley Moon, 34, aren’t expecting wedding bells any time soon, but they have discussed how it might unfold. Shirlie confided her desire to “be there” when her children decide to tie the knot.

However, referencing their own low-key nuptials in St. Lucia back in 1988 with not a single guest in attendance, Martin, 63, pointed out to Shirlie that their kids may follow suit. Shirlie has said: “I’m not bothered that they’re not married or have children. I think the world is a scary place. But if my kids get married, I want to be there.”

To which Martin replied: “I can tell you, you won’t be. Roman will do exactly the same thing [as us]. Everything he does, he’s looked at, so he’ll want to go away. And we can’t be heartbroken because we’ll have no right to be.”

In Hello Magazine, Martin also expressed his eagerness to become a grandfather. Despite Roman teasing him about referring to him as “grandad,” Martin looks forward to the possibility that his grandchildren will watch him and Shirlie on TV one day.

Roman and Spandau Ballet legend Martin often make a splash in the entertainment world as a dynamic father-son duo. The pair have lit up television screens together on shows like Martin and Roman’s Weekend Best and have even teamed up for Celebrity Gogglebox stints.

Emphasising the importance of family legacy, Roman explained: “My dad and I get to work with each other all the time, and I’m so lucky for that.

“The reason we work together is that I know how much I’m going to love my kids and my family watching that footage of me and their grandad working together – and that’s just our relationship.”

Meanwhile, Roman’s colourful romantic history has kept fans intrigued. He’s been at the centre of speculation involving Love Island bombshell Maura Higgins and German model Jette Kerkoff in the past year.

In 2021, Australian radio producer Codie Jones was reported to be his flame. From 2018 until 2020, Roman was in a confirmed relationship with Swiss scientist Anne-Sophie Flury.

Although when he is on camera, he is full of life and laughter, every night, the former Radio DJ has revealed he has to wear an oxygen mask to bed. Roman, 32, who recently appeared on a  celebrity episode of Great British Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer on Channel 4, was diagnosed with sleep apnoea in 2022.

He was even forced to quit his Capital breakfast show because of the toll the condition took on him. Speaking to Mail Online, the presenter who dealt with five years of demanding early starts for his show, said: “My tiredness levels were debilitating, and they said to me it was because of my job, and I said this is different. I was talking with people where I thought I was verging on narcolepsy because I was mid-conversation and would be snoring and not realising; it was very strange. The doctors told me I must wear an oxygen mask. There is absolutely nothing sexy about going back to Roman Kemp’s house.”
