The F1 legend hasn’t been seen in public since December 2013
A major health update on Michael Schumacher has emerged, over 12 years on from the tragic skiing accident that changed the F1 legend’s life forever.
Back in December 2013, the German was in the French Alps with his family when he tragically veered off course and hit his head on a rock.
Schumacher was initially placed in a medically induced coma, with the world praying for positive news. He was fortunately able to survive the accident but, ever since, has lived a life shrouded in secrecy.
Little is known about the 57-year-old today. He is cared for by his wife, Corinna, who has always ensured that details of his condition are kept to a minimum.
Now, however, there’s been a major update on Schumacher.
A report from the Daily Mail says that he spends time in Majorca, Spain, at a fortified mansion where he receives the best care that doctors and other medical experts can provide.
That is not his primary residence, however, with Schumacher and his family residing at a £50million house in Gland, Switzerland.

It is said that Schumacher is not bedridden, contradicting some previous claims over his condition. However, he cannot walk, with the F1 icon instead pushed around in a wheelchair.
Visitors are rare. Three or four, other than family members, are allowed to have access to arguably the greatest driver in Formula One history.
One of them is his former Ferrari boss Jean Todt. The pair reportedly watch races together, with Todt viewing Schumacher as his ‘second son’.

There have been plenty of rumours about Schumacher and his condition in the years since the tragedy in France.
One suggestion is that he suffers from Locked-in Syndrome, a neurological condition that means someone can be fully conscious yet unable to respond to anything other than by blinking.
Yet a source has insisted that isn’t the case. An insider told the publication: “You can’t be sure whether he understands everything because he cannot tell anyone.
“The feeling is that he understands some of the things going on around him, but probably not all of them.”
It was also reported last year that Schumacher had attended the wedding of his daughter, Gina, who tied the knot with long-term partner Iain Bethke.
This, however, appears to be inaccurate with Schumacher’s privacy continuing to be respected.

Michael Schumacher won seven F1 titles during his career | GETTYBack in 2021, meanwhile, Schumacher’s wife Corinna confirmed that the F1 legend was ‘different’ from before. In a Netflix documentary, she also detailed how the family ensure he lives as good a life as possible, despite his sad condition.
“Michael is here. Different, but he’s here, and that gives us strength, I find,” she said.
“He still shows me how strong he is every day.
“We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he’s comfortable. And to simply make him feel our family, our bond.
“And no matter what, I will do everything I can. We all will. We’re trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives.
“‘Private is private’, as he always said. It’s very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael.”
