Cody Johnson and his wife Brandi Johnson are gearing up for a new chapter as they prepare to welcome their third child, and first son, this fall. The beloved country couple first revealed the exciting news that they were expecting while walking the red carpet at the 2025 ACM Awards in May 2025, where Brandi debuted her baby bump in a form-fitting sage green silk gown, subtly sharing their pregnancy without an official announcement.

Cody Johnson Talks About Having A third Child

Now, the country superstar is opening up about the upcoming arrival and the emotional moment he shared with his daughters when he told them they were going to be big sisters in a new interview with Cody Alan on SiriusXM’s The Highway.

Alan asked Johnson about the surprise baby bump unveiling at the ACMs, joking that when he first saw Brandi’s bump, he asked himself, “what’s happening there?” Cody Johnson then detailed how the public reveal came to be after a conversation with his publicist, Jessie Schmidt (of Schmidt Relations).

“That’s what I was like, Jessie, my publicist, the best publicist in the world. She’s like, ‘We need to figure out a way to release this.’ And I was like, ‘I think when she shows up at the ACMs, and she looks like she’s smuggling a volleyball in her dress, it’s gonna be pretty obvious,’” the 38-year-old Texas native explained. “So, but I was like, what better way to do it. Like, he’ll grow up, it’s a boy, by the way, first little boy. And he’ll grow up and be like, ‘Oh, I was there.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, you were there when I won Song of the Year.’”

Johnson Shares Sweet Way His Wife Told Him About Pregnancy

With a “projected” due date of October 25, Cody Johnson admitted that he and his wife are “extremely happy” for their new bundle of joy to arrive. “October 25th is kind of our projected [date], but we’ll see. This, you know, it never really goes as planned,” Johnson added.

The “The Fall” singer also opened up about the unexpected, sweet way that Brandi told him she was pregnant. “So Brandi did this weird thing where she was like, she texted me, she ran to town, and she’s like, ‘Hey, can you come out to the barn and help me unload my truck?’” he began.

He explained, “And I was like, ‘Okay.’ Like, you know, I go out there, and it’s this like little bitty box, and I’m like, ‘You 100% could have done this yourself.’ And so I unload the box, and she’s like, ‘Oh, and I do have one more thing in there if you can get that.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay.’ It’s this little bitty box. And I unload it, and I’m trying to figure out what’s going on. And she’s like, ‘Oh, by the way, here you can have this too.’ And it was a pregnancy test.”

Reveals His Two Daughters’ Tearful Reactions

Johnson’s daughters, Clara Mae (10) and Cori (8), were just as excited and moved by the news.

Cody Johnson revealed his daughter’s raw reactions to the moment, sharing, “Clara, my oldest, we call her the cry police because if you ever like tear up over a movie or something, she’ll look you up and down. She’s like, ‘Are you crying?’ It’s so, like yeah, I was crying. Are you crying right now? And she burst into tears, happy though, ‘Oh my God, I’m gonna be a big sister.’ And then Cori does it too, so that’s awesome. They’re all, they keep calling it our baby. ‘Well, when our baby gets here, when our baby we are.’” Johnson told Alan of Clara and Cori’s reaction. “And I’m like, ‘This is not a we, y’all are still kids.’ But then it hit me. I’ve got built in babysitters. Clara is ten, Cori is eight. So, like, this boy is screwed.”

Cody Johnson Looks Ahead To Raising A Son On The Ranch As His “Little Buckaroo”

Looking ahead at the future of becoming a boy dad for the first time, Johnson says he can’t wait to raise his son in the cowboy lifestyle that he has built through the years. “I didn’t get to live the cowboy life for a long time. I had to kind of earn my way to the point where I could afford to say, ‘We’re gonna go buy a ranch, and we’re doing this.’ So the fact that he’s gonna be born… into a cattle ranch, that’s gonna be cool, man. He’s gonna be the little, I promise you, the little buckaroo riding around with six shooters on.”

Alan joked with Johnson saying, “I can’t wait to see him win that first championship belt buckle at a rodeo,” prompting a laugh from Johnson, who quickly replied, “and then i’ll cry and Clara will say, ‘are you crying right now?’”
