Adultery, the six-part romance drama about a forbidden love affair starring Dominic Cooper and Romola Garai, comes to ITV this autumn
TV has unveiled the trailer for Adultery, a provocative new six-part romance series that explores the explosive consequences of a forbidden affair.
Created by acclaimed writer Danny Brocklehurst – known for his success with Harlan Coben adaptations like Fool Me Once and The Stranger – the series promises to be an emotional exploration of passion, parenthood and the fallout of a secret romance that threatens to upend two families.

What is Adultery about?
Billed as a story “bristling with forbidden desire” that raises questions about “class, grief and the effects of social media,” the series centres on two families and the love affair that threatens to turn their lives upside down.
The synopsis continues: “When Tom Kirkman (Dominic Cooper) and Beth Brookes (Romola Garai) first meet, they share an immediate, intense connection. The only problem is, Tom’s 15-year-old daughter Jess (Leila Khan) is in a relationship with Beth’s son Ollie (Johnny Sanpher), and their young love has become all-consuming.

“As Tom and Beth struggle with their undeniable desires, they must grapple with their guilt and the potential consequences for their families and partners, Hannah (Shelley Conn) and Neil (Matthew McNulty).
“Will they be able to control their desires unlike their lovestruck teenagers?”

Executive producer Ben Stephenson, a former BBC Head of Drama responsible for commissioning hit dramas such as Line of Duty and Sherlock, teased the series as “juicy, gripping and complex”.
“I am thrilled that we have assembled such a high calibre cast for Danny’s wonderful scripts,” Ben previously said in a statement. “Dominic and Romola are two remarkable actors at the peak of their careers and it’s hugely exciting to see what they bring to this juicy, gripping and complex show alongside their amazing co-ads Matthew and Shelley.”
