Netflix’s ‘unhinged’ crime thriller named biggest show of 2026

The binge worthy limited series based on a gripping novel is one of the biggest shows of all time

A Netflix adaptation described as “unhinged” has just been crowned the biggest new series of 2026 so far.

Fresh figures reveal that one of the streaming giant’s crime thrillers ranks amongst the most-watched titles of the year.

Released in January, His and Hers swiftly captured audiences’ attention, storming to the top of Netflix’s charts for the month.

The series stars Jon Bernthal, who is currently headlining The Punisher special on Disney+, alongside Marvel alumna Tessa Thompson. Set against the sweltering backdrop of Atlanta, the show follows a gripping and twisting narrative.

Anna lives in seclusion, drifting away from her friends and her career as a news anchor. However, when she overhears news of a murder in Dahlonega – the quiet town where she grew up – Anna is jolted back into action.

She throws herself into the case, desperately hunting for answers. Detective Jack Harper grows increasingly suspicious of her involvement, drawing her into the crosshairs of his own investigation. With two sides to every story – HIS and HERS – somebody is always lying, reports the Mirror

The limited series is based on the novel of the same name by Alice Feeney. One critic hailed it as “unhinged, ridiculous, sexy, and sensational”, while another declared it “one of Netflix’s most underrated crime thrillers”.

A further review branded it “twisty, absurd and bingeable”. Now, new figures reported by Variety lay bare just what a phenomenon the six-part thriller has become. According to the report, it claimed the top spot as the most streamed new series in the United States, managing to eclipse new seasons of Fallout, High Potential and Bridgerton, while also surpassing several Yellowstone spin-offs such as The Madison and Marshals.

The figures, supplied by Nielsen, reveal that His and Hers accumulated 25.6 million views between January and March. While these statistics reflect the US audience, data from the UK paints a remarkably similar picture.

According to YouGov, His and Hers garnered 33.3 million views in January alone in the UK, placing it amongst the biggest new releases of the period, beaten only by new seasons of Bridgerton, Fallout, Stranger Things and Harlan Coben thriller Run Away.

It should be noted, however, that only the figures for the month of its release are currently available. The total UK viewing figures across all months since its debut remain unknown.

Netflix nonetheless lists His and Hers as the 10th most viewed programme on the platform of all time, having amassed 98.2 million views across its global audience.

The only other limited series to have outperformed it on the service are The Queen’s Gambit, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and Adolescence.

For those yet to tune in, fans have been enthusiastic in their praise. One viewer posted online: “Terrific murder mystery. I thought the writing was superb along with the acting. It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering ‘who did it.’ An ending I did not see coming.”

Another remarked: “One of the best Whodunnits of 2026. The cast is extraordinary along with their acting. A true gripping story with so many interconnected webs that you will keep on guessing right till the end.”
