A new crime drama launched on streaming this week proves an unmissable binge-watch with a staggering finale that leaves audiences clamouring for more.

Available this Thursday (7th May) on Paramount+, the nine-episode series can be watched in full and comes from the creative team behind Ozark co-creator Bill Dubuque and Outlander writer Karen Campbell.

Situated within the colourful yet perilous landscape of South Florida’s criminal underworld, M.I.A. opens when a young woman finds herself compelled to assume command of her family’s drug-trafficking operation following a devastating tragedy.

Driven by vengeance, she gathers a team to assist her ascent through Miami’s criminal hierarchies, ultimately emerging as one of Florida’s most formidable queenpins, reports the Mirror.

Rising talent Shannon Gisela headlines the series as the compelling anti-heroine Etta Tiger Jonze, supported by an outstanding ensemble which also features Dylan T Jackson, Brittany Adebumola, and Cary Elwes.

While the series has garnered somewhat divided opinion amongst critics, since all nine episodes dropped earlier this week M.I.A. has already cultivated a devoted following declaring it amongst the finest new programmes of 2026.

If you relished Dubuque’s acclaimed Netflix series Ozark or have a weakness for female-led gangster dramas such as Griselda or Queen of the South, M.I.A. absolutely warrants your attention.

One 10/10 review from an IMDb user urged potential viewers “don’t listen to these haters” and added: “Don’t know why they have all these negative reviews but this show was absolutely amazing.

“Me and my wife were highly entertained and intrigued the entire season. The last scene blew our minds and had us wanting more which means season 2 and we can’t wait.”

Another delighted fan declared it was “one of the best TV series I’ve watched in years”. “M. I. A is a gripping, emotionally charged series that delivers outstanding storytelling from beginning to end,” they said.

“Every episode pulls you deeper into its world, blending suspense, drama, and realism in a way that feels cinematic and deeply authentic.”

“Every episode got me more intrigued to watch it, and with every episode came a new plot twist which was very interesting,” another enthusiast remarked. “Just when you think you know what’s going on, the show throws something completely unexpected at you.

“The pacing was perfect with honestly never a boring moment. I hope there will be a Season 2 after leaving us with that crazy cliffhanger at the end!”

A further viewer boasted “I binged the entire series!” just two days after its release, going on to proclaim: “This series is a lot better than a ton of other series in the last few years.” Fancy an exhilarating journey to Miami this week? Paramount+ has got you covered.
