Strictly star’s tragic death after show axe as heartbreaking final words revealed

The inquest, which opened at West London Coroner’s Court in February 2026, revealed that the 44-year-old former Strictly star was found dead face down on a hotel bed in London. The discovery was made in February 2024, shortly after he had returned to the UK from a working cruise in South Africa.
Police discovered a “damning” suicide note near his body addressed to a friend. In the letter, Windsor expressed deep despair, stating that being axed from Strictly Come Dancing in 2014 “destroyed” him. He described living in a “dark place” and felt that the way the corporation treated him started a downward spiral.
The hearing heard testimony that Windsor’s mental health declined significantly following a 2013 back injury. Professional dancer Kristina Rihanoff testified that the “psychological impact” of his injury and subsequent exit from the show was severe, as he felt he could no longer do the job he loved more than anything else.
A second note was found addressed to his former partner, actor Ollie Augustin. In this final message, Windsor reportedly sought to offer reassurance during the tragedy, explicitly telling his ex-boyfriend, “I need you to understand that this is not your fault!” as he explained he could no longer live with his constant sadness.
Windsor had been a beloved member of the Strictly family from 2010 to 2013, partnering with stars like Lisa Riley and Patsy Kensit. Despite his popularity, he previously admitted he was heartbroken when show bosses did not invite him back for the 2014 series, a decision that eventually became a central focus of the inquest.
