A 35-year-old man has been charged with murder after the death of a 69-year-old who police say was known to him, north of Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to a Burpengary address at 9am on Friday following reports a man was unresponsive inside the property.

Moreton District Detective Inspector David Harbison said the 69-year-old was found with trauma injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

The younger man was arrested at the scene.

Detective Inspector Harbison said police believe “some type of weapon or implement” had been used but it remained under investigation.

He said the 35-year-old had been assisting police with enquiries before a single charge of murder (domestic violence) was laid on Friday evening.

He said the nature of their relationship and who lived at the property was not yet clear.

“This investigation is in its infancy,” Detective Inspector Harbison said. “A crime scene remains in place and will likely continue for the coming days whilst we forensically examine the entire scene.”

He said a time frame of events had not yet been established.

“We don’t know when exactly this incident has occurred, it is likely within probably 12 hours at least previous to this morning,” he said.

The 35-year-old man is due to face court in Brisbane on Saturday.

Police said there was no ongoing threat to the community.
