Love Island’s George Knight reveals his reason for shock villa exit & spills all on Toni Laites’ row
WHEN Love Island’s George Knight was asked to meet the dating show’s producers outside the villa front door last Thursday morning, it sparked a chain of events which saw him quit the series after six days.
With his exit shrouded in mystery, until now George has shared just one message online: “Family comes first, always.” Today he breaks his silence to share his reason for leaving the show and opens up on intense trolling on the outside — with some courtesy of former winner and Aftersun panellist Toni Laites.

We meet in the green room for The Sun’s Showbiz Fix podcast, where pro footballer George is clutching a pot of boiled eggs and tucking into a black Americano.
He tells me: “I’m good, as good as I can be. I think as the days have gone on, it’s, yeah, it’s a bit of a whirlwind, to be honest.
“The last few days have been overwhelming. It’s nuts.”
The Sun broke the news that George had left the villa for “private reasons” last Thursday, when George’s rollercoaster began.
George has now shared his version of events, starting in the villa’s beach hut video booth, where producers speak with the cast.
George said: “I was expecting just to receive a usual question, like ask how I’m doing or what’s the plan for the day.
“And they just said that one of the producers on site was going to meet me at the front door and that they had some information for you and the execs wanted to see you.
“And I was thinking, oh God, what could this be about? Once the execs put you in, you don’t see them again, really.

“They said that my parents had been in touch and that they had some news for me and that they were going to give me a call.
“It is all very private. But it was a health concern with a member of the immediate family.
“They said they felt like they weren’t doing their role as a parent if they didn’t let me know.
“And with what was said, I just felt like it was the right thing to come home.”
There has been feverish speculation around George’s exit since Thursday and even when he shared his own statement on Friday – adding it was for “private family reasons” – conspiracy theories raged.
For starters, fans asked whether the Dorking Wanderers player should have even entered the villa if there was a family matter brewing at home.
“This was not on my radar to be a concern and definitely not in the next few sort of months. That’s the honest truth,” George said.
“I was obviously aware [of the health issue], but it was not something that we needed to concern ourselves about in the eight week period that I could have been away or even longer than that.
“There was no second guessing my decision to leave.
“You’ve got to remind yourself that as much as reality TV is fantastic and great, the priority is your family and who’s close to you and has been in your entire life. And that’s why I came to that conclusion.”
As someone with my own health issues, I choose to respectfully not probe further.

I can’t promise Love Island’s passionate fan base will do the same, I venture, after many had their own theories around his departure.
Some centered on his behaviour in the villa, more of which later.
But one popular notion was that he’d agreed a code with his family so they could pull him out if he was proving unpopular.
The whispers are the reason the lad from Winchester wanted to share his account with The Sun to try and move forward.
George said: “What a load of nonsense. A code!
“I think, well, firstly, I was overwhelmed by the positive, nice, kind words and messages and people reaching out, stopping me on the street and stuff, which is still bamboozling me every second.
“But for every 15 nice messages, you get one that is just vile. Like it’s horrible. Like it really is horrible.
“Obviously people are gonna speculate, but that’s why I’m doing this. The truth is always what people want to know and that’s why I’m here.”
As we head down into our studio, George is tall, engaging and offers to clear away our used coffee cups.
I understand why girls in the villa including Mica and Robyn wanted to pull him for a chat.
That wasn’t necessarily a given, because when his promotional image was released last Monday his fair hair saw him likened unfavourably to a Targaryen in the Game of Thrones and Harry Potter villain Draco Malfoy.
Show commentator Toni Laties, who won 2025’s series, was criticised by fans for branding him a “jumpscare”.
I ask George how he felt about the trolling.
He said: “It’s funny because one of my best friends I’ve known for a long time, his girlfriend is Toni’s manager.
“So I think that was a bit of an awkward one. And I, when I came out, I was like, ‘what’s going on here?’
“I think if the roles had been reversed and a guy had said that about a girl, I think it would have, you know, blown up even more. But look, everyone’s entitled to their opinion.”

If George agrees to appear on Love Island’s Aftersun spin-off, he may soon be able to ask Toni about the comments directly.
But it sounds like he’s undecided whether to re-enter the Love Island bubble.
He said: “Aftersun is down to obviously everyone else, my entire family. It’s quite a big deal.
“I think, you know, there’s a chance, but we’ll see.
“I don’t know what I’d say to Toni. I’d think, yeah, fair play. Like, you know, everyone’s striving to be relevant and that’s the thing, you know, that was going to be a bold comment.
“And [fellow panellist] Shakira had my back, which I’m very grateful for. Shakira, if you’re hearing this, what a girl.
“But I’ve been called so many worse, horrible things on a football pitch and by fans my entire life.
“So getting called a jump scare, I mean, it doesn’t really bother me.
“I’m not too fussed. I don’t think that lighting did me any favours, walking in. Blondes in that, in that sun.
“I think I’ve got a bit of a peculiar look for sure.”
I suggest at least people will remember him among the hundreds of Islanders.
He adds: “Yeah, hopefully for good reasons.”
Which brings us on to the more problematic moments of George’s Love Island journey, which saw him slated for racial microaggressions, including describing Barbados-born Mica’s silk scarf as an “exotic” bandana.
Others noted George’s treatment of British-Indian castmate, Samraj – who he spoke down to after choosing to evict him from the villa as part of a bombshell mission.
And more fans pointed to similar moments with black Islanders Ope and Angelista.
George said: “I don’t blame everyone because you don’t see everything. You see such a small percentage of all the conversations and the relationships that you build. So I get it, I completely get it.

“And there are, you know, standout moments where you think, oh, that doesn’t look the greatest.
“Mica was the coolest girl in there. Immediately from going in, I was like, this girl is cool. Like, she’s really cool.
“By far the best dressed and she had a bit of an aura.
“I think exotic was just the wrong word. I think she looks so cool.
“I was really interested in pursuing it and trying to uncover if there was a connection there. I just think exotic was the wrong word. I think I came across a little, I came across, you know… it was not the best choice of words.
“But I did really like her and I do regret the comment.
“But in the moment you just forget, like you’re never going to be fluid and perfect when you’re talking to girls or anyone really. It’s just, you have a camera on you 24 seven.”
George says his decision to boot Samraj out the villa was entirely down to gameplay.
Fans were confused why he didn’t instead evict Sam, who was paired with Robyn – George’s biggest love interest.
He added: “I think when Samraj came and spoke to me, and he sat me down, and he said, ‘look, I felt like a victim’. I was like, mate, I was the victim when I walked through the doors.
“It was a horrible thing to do. I didn’t wanna do it.
“I felt s**t doing it. Production were always constantly reminding me and Yasmin we were bombshells and we had to act as a bombshell.

George says that Jasmine was most his type ‘but her personality and mine just didn’t work’

“Then you hear it on the voice of God [the Islanders’ name for the villa tannoy] and they said, ‘be a bombshell, be a bombshell.’
“That’s what they kept saying. Be a bombshell, be a bombshell.
“And there was massive emphasis on personal gain when Maya Jama spoke to us and she said, ‘you’ve got a mission. You’ve got something, you’ve got a job to do.’
“And Sam had said explicitly that he was in a friendship couple, Robyn didn’t fancy him. So I was like, well, getting rid of Sam does nothing for me.”
George was also in hot water after secretly kissing Robyn on the terrace after Mica chose him to officially couple up.
He added: “I know I shouldn’t have kissed Robyn, but I did anyway, cause I wanted to kiss and I’m just gonna do it anyway, which I know is the wrong thing to do.”
George says that Jasmine was most his type “but her personality and mine just didn’t work.”
He added: “Robyn was interested from the start. She likes blonde boys, tall blonde boys.
“Mica again was really easy to talk to. And we had a little bit of a bit of a connection there.
“But if I had to have picked, I probably would have gone with Robyn. I also didn’t want her to think that it was just locked off.
“Even on day one, she was like, why did you pick Mica? I was like, well, because it’s day one. I’m still exploring connections.
“I got loads of hate for saying that it’s day one. That’s just reality.”
Robyn didn’t seem too bothered George had left, something which surprised viewers.
For the most part, George himself doesn’t seem keen to hop on the next flight back to Majorca, if his family issues allowed.
He adds: “I was sort of keeping Robyn and Mica at arm’s length, I guess, just trying to figure out how to understand myself, who I liked more.
“So naturally when I’m gone, Robyn suddenly feels like she’s got a bit of power and – as she should – be like, right, well, what’s next? She knows what she wants and that’s really attractive.
“So yeah, I’m not really too bothered, to be honest. It was a great six days with her.”
Past Islanders including Harry Cooksley – who George knew through football – have reached out to support him, as has All Stars winner Gabby Allen.
He plans to now appear on another Islander Harrison Solomon’s video stream.
Time will tell whether voracious Love Island fans accept George’s reason for leaving the villa – and whether he’ll go on to become a show great, remembered “for good reasons”, as is his hope.
George concludes: “I probably have said things that in reflection don’t look or sound great, but that’s just how I am in the moment.
“And I know it will shoot me in the foot. I shoot myself in the foot a few times, but authenticity is – I think – what people are drawn to.”
A Love Island spokesman said: ” We have a duty of care towards George and as such will not be commenting further.”
