Chapter I: The Planetary Real Estate Declaration
High-intensity LED lights illuminated the Genesis Lab at Starbase Headquarters in Texas. The atmosphere was thick with tension. Elon Musk, 54, in his characteristic black T-shirt and jeans, sat opposite his 12 children. Surrounding them were screens displaying intricate blueprints of the Starship rocket and planning diagrams for Martian residential zones.
Today was not a technical meeting; it was the day to announce the decision regarding his $500 billion fortune—the largest accumulated wealth by a single individual in human history.
Musk’s children, from X, Y, and Z (the unique coded names) to his more grown-up offspring, tried to maintain composure, but their eyes betrayed excitement mixed with anxiety. They knew this will would determine who controlled SpaceX, Tesla-AI, Neuralink, and the lithium mines on the Moon.
Elon lightly tapped his finger on the titanium table. “We will not waste time on legal or emotional arguments,” he began, his voice carrying the tone of absolute finality. “You know my vision: humanity must become a multi-planetary species, capable of passing the universe’s Great Filter.”
He paused, his sharp gaze sweeping across each one of them. “Wealth is a tool. It is not the ultimate goal.”
Then he delivered a statement that would shake capital markets and global newsrooms:
“My entire fortune—all my shares, all planetary real estate, all trust funds—has been transferred. Not to any of you.”
A horrifying silence descended upon the room, broken only by the hum of the cooling system fans.
“I have established The Frontier Foundation,” Elon continued, as if explaining a simple algorithm. “Its goal is to solve the three problems I call the Triangle of Sustainability on Earth: ecological regeneration, free universal AI education, and providing clean fusion energy. My assets will work for humanity, not for individual gain.”
He looked at his eldest child, who had opened their mouth to protest. “You have my genes. You have my ability. If you desire greatness, build it from the ground up yourselves. The best legacy I can leave you is a world worth inheriting.”
Chapter II: The Plumber in Marrakesh

Immediately following the announcement, Elon Musk virtually evaporated from social media and board meetings. The legal campaign by his 12 children—dubbed by the media as “The Revolt of the Space Princes and Princesses”—failed miserably. He had drafted the Trust’s terms so tightly they were nearly invulnerable.
Instead of a spaceship, his mode of transport was an old electric pickup truck. He carried only a small toolbox and a set of work clothes.
His first chosen location was not a high-tech lab, but the arid outskirts of Marrakesh, Morocco. He partnered with small NGOs to deploy small-scale solar power systems and desalination units.
The press hunted for him frantically. Finally, a local television channel captured footage of him repairing a leaky water pipe under the scorching sun. Gone was the billionaire glamour; he was just a middle-aged man with messy hair, drenched in sweat.
When a reporter bravely approached, asking about his reason for giving everything up, Elon simply wiped his hands on his jeans.
“I’ve put humans into Low Earth Orbit, and onto the Moon. My next goal is to bring humans back to the ground. If I cannot ensure a stable civilization on the Blue Planet, then settling Mars is just hypocritical escapism.”
He pointed to the desalination machine he personally installed, which was converting seawater into potable water. “This,” he said, “is my true empire.”
Chapter III: Redefining Vision
Elon Musk’s absence created a massive power vacuum, but it also forced his children to confront reality: they had to find their own purpose.
The daughter in charge of the Tesla-AI division, who had yearned for the inheritance, was now compelled to personally negotiate a massive contract with the Japanese government to implement smart traffic networks. She was no longer working under her father’s shadow; she had to make audacious decisions on her own.
One of the younger sons, who had always been obsessed with the inheritance money, finally found his true passion in using Starlink satellites to provide free internet access to schools in conflict zones.
A year later, Musk surprisingly hosted a brief, unannounced livestream, his first since stepping back. He appeared from an undisclosed location in South America.
His eldest child, X, bravely asked: “Father, we are still trying our best to take over and grow the companies. Are you disappointed to see the empire you built fractured?”
Elon looked directly into the camera, a rare sense of peace on his face.
“You misunderstood. I didn’t want you to take over the empire. I wanted you to create new empires, your own, using your inherent abilities. Look at what you are doing with Starlink for children, with Tesla-AI for security… That is your real fortune.”
He concluded with a phrase that became the motto of the new generation of inheritors: “Money is the engine. Purpose is the rocket.”
For Elon Musk, who was always obsessed with preserving humanity, giving up his fortune was not a sacrifice, but the ultimate grand calculation: he traded billions of dollars to buy back a life’s purpose for himself and for the children he loved, ensuring his legacy would not just be numbers on a bank ledger, but a habitable Earth and a settlable Mars.
