Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has shared a tearful clip with fans after being forced to pull out of a show.
Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden has made an appeal to fans after being forced to miss the National Television Awards.
The 35-year-old Welsh dancer, who appeared on ITV’s Lorraine yesterday (Wednesday), explained that the annual ceremony unfortunately coincides with a recording of Strictly Come Dancing.
Amy is making a comeback to the popular BBC competition following her cancer diagnosis and undergoing treatment. Last year, she was substituted by Lauren Oakley when she had to withdraw due to injury while partnered with JB Gill.
She expressed her joy at returning to the ballroom, but also revealed the disappointing news that she would have to miss the NTAs, where her BBC documentary, Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me, has been nominated in the Authored Documentary category.

“Unfortunately, no, the good thing is I’m back on Strictly and we’re recording the launch show,” she informed Lorraine Kelly, reports Wales Online.
Amy mentioned that her parents and best friend would be attending in her stead, and would accept the award on her behalf if she were to win.
“My dad will be so emotional,” she commented. “I’m so lucky to have them as parents.”

Amy has now posted a heart-wrenching clip for fans documenting a moment from her breast cancer battle.
Her BBC programme followed her health struggle through her cancer diagnosis, as she courageously shared her experiences undergoing a mastectomy, receiving chemotherapy, and undergoing fertility treatment.
“This powerfully candid film follows Amy through her toughest journey, as she pushes to return to health and back to the Strictly ballroom,” reads the synopsis.

Amy shared a tearful clip from her chemotherapy treatment, discussing how “gutted” she was to have to remove a cold cap due to “excruciating” pain.
She encouraged her followers to vote for the upcoming @officialntas awards and expressed how difficult it was to share such a personal moment on camera.
She penned: “One week until @officialntas awards Voting is still open! Always get emotional when I watch it back.”

Expressing gratitude towards her friend who reassured her that removing the cold cap didn’t mean she had “failed”, Amy continued: “Always get emotional when I watch it back. @karlamorley thank you for always being the strongest and always there for me!”
In another Story, she added: “Such a hard decision, I was so sick and in pain during this chemo session. My hair was already 50% gone.
“But knowing when the cap was turned off, I had days before it was all gone was such a hard moment to accept! [sic]
“Through my documentary, I truly wanted to show the reality of my cancer diagnosis!

“@karlamorley, being my dear friend but also hairdresser, this was a tough day for her too! I was so lucky with all those around me who helped me through it all and I’m forever in your debt!”
Amy’s documentary is in competition with Molly-Mae Hague’s Amazon Prime series Behind It All, Boyzone: No Matter What, Freddie Flintoff’s programme chronicling his recovery from a terrifying Top Gear accident, and There’s Only One Rob Burrow.
