Seven fire crews continue to battle a huge blaze at a large carpet storage factory overnight.

More than 75 firefighters from West Midlands Fire Service were called to the Tyseley Industrial Estate, on Steeleys Road, in Tyseley, just before 7.15pm yesterday, Wednesday, January 7.

The blaze engulfed all of the two storey brick built factory.

The fire service said that the incident had been slightly scaled back. But seven crews remained on site this morning.

The public were still advised to avoid the area with partial road closures still in place.

A fire service spokesperson said this morning: “Crews are making good progress at this fire. We’ve reduced our resources to seven crews.

“Partial road closures are still in place, and we still advise people to avoid the area where possible.”

The fire service had earlier said: “On 7 January at 19.13 we were alerted to a significant fire involving a large carpet storage unit on the Tyseley Industrial Estate, Steeleys Road, Tyseley.

“The fire involves 100% of the 2 storey brick built factory unit measuring approximately 100m x 40m.

“14 fire engines; 3 hydraulic platforms; specialist units and fire officers bring the current total number of WMFS personnel on scene to over 75.

“Crews are working to bring the fire under control using specialist equipment such as hydraulic platforms; aerial drones and breathing apparatus.

“This is likely to be a protracted incident and further significant updates will be provided when available.

“Local Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed and avoid the area.”
