Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley has appeared as fan-favourite Cain Dingle on the hit ITV soap for over 25 years. The actor thankfully lives a less dramatic life away from the screen as his on-screen counterpart has been caught up in some of the soap’s most memorable storylines over the years.
Most recently, the actor found himself at the centre of the iconic Corriedale crossover episode with had devastating effects for both soaps. Fans were delighted to see their favourite Weatherfield characters come face to face with their Yorkshire-based counterparts, although in heart-breaking circumstances.
After the crash which saw Corrie’s Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) die, a doctor could be heard telling a mystery patient about a “sizeable mass” which was discovered while testing.
In a shocking turn of events, the camera panned to Cain Dingle in Hotten General as the doctor explained the possibility of cancer. Soap fans were heartbroken by the news, and will have to stay tuned to see how the storyline will play out on-screen in 2026.

Away from the fictional Yorkshire village, the 55-year old actor often shares aspects of his life and has previously opened up about suffering with Crohn’s disease. He was diagnosed in 1996.
Jeff studied at the Manchester Metropolitan University School of Theatre, which is where he met his future wife and Emmerdale co-star Zoe Henry.
Zoe, who is 50, has been in the Yorkshire-based soap since 2000 as Rhona Goskirk. The couple have been married since 2003 and have been in a relationship for over thirty years. They have two children together.
Jeff and Zoe live together in a quaint cottage in the Yorkshire Dales with their children and pets. They share a daughter named Violet and a son named Stan. Violet was born in 2005 and Stan was born in 2008.

Jeff has previously made the decision to modify his diet as a way to treat Crohn’s disease. A nutritionist recommended he follow a strict detox and cut alcohol, sugar, meat, wheat and dairy from his diet.
To help cope with the new lifestyle, Jeff and Zoe also installed an allotment in their rural retreat and cook everything from scratch.
The actor has previously spoken to The Express about his health condition. He said: “Even though I tried to avoid foods that upset my digestive system, such as coffee and Chinese takeaways, I was still sick and tired and I kept losing weight.
“I was a drama student in Manchester and sometimes I had to miss lectures because I was too tired. I even had to drop out of my final year plays.”
Jeff had an operation and was put on medication to manage the illness. In 2002, the actor collapsed while he was at a theatre and luckily, he soon recovered. It was part of this recovery process when he made the decision to make changes to his lifestyle.
