A man has been found dead inside a burning shed as police launch an investigation into the cause of the blaze on the Sunshine Coast.
Emergency services were called to a fire in a shed behind shops at Howard St, Nambour, at 6.56pm on Tuesday.
Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield said an explosion was heard by a neighbouring property, with police arriving to find the shed fully engulfed.
When the fire was extinguished, the body of a man was found inside the shed. He has yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be a man in his sixties.
Mansfield said the nature of the mans death in the fire means it would “take some time” for him to be identified officially.
A crime scene was declared, and investigations into the incident are continuing, police said.
Police have spoken to a number of witnesses, Mansfield said, but are still determining the cause of the fire.
Anyone with information or CCTV is asked to contact police.
The man’s death is the fourth fire related death in as many days in Queensland’s south east.
Earlier on Tuesday, two people were killed in a house fire in Kingston, south of Brisbane.
Mother Leanne Laver and family friend Philip Gordon both perished in the fire, however, four people — including Laver’s husband and the couple’s children — escaped the burning home.
On Sunday night, young mother Isabella Nicholls, 21, suffered critical burns in a unit fire in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast.
She was rushed to hospital but died on Monday morning from her injuries.
