Concerns for the victims had initially been raised “several days” ago after they vanished.
Officers forced their way into the family home on Carnoustie Drive where they found the bodies.
A tearful woman among mourners told members of the press: “We’re really sorry to lose her. She was such a gracious mother.”
A suspect who police believe was known to the victims has been identified amid the “complex investigation“.
But cops fear they may have fled the UK.
Assistant Chief Constable John Murphy said the incident was “deeply distressing”.
He urged anyone with information to come forward immediately, adding: “Our thoughts are first and foremost with all those affected.
“We recognise that this will cause concern in the local community and beyond.
“This is the early stages of what is an incredibly complex investigation.
“We are committing all necessary resources to establish exactly what has happened and to find the person responsible.
“We have identified a suspect, who was known to all three victims, and who we believe has since left the country.”
Major crime units from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Constabulary are leading the investigation.
Additional police officers have also been deployed in the Great Denham area, Assistant Ch Con Murphy said.
He continued: “While there is nothing to suggest there is any wider risk to the public, we will be increasing the police presence in and around the area to support the investigation and provide reassurance to residents.
“I would also ask people to be mindful of the privacy of the victims and avoid speculating about what might have happened.”
Anyone with information should contact the force online or call 101 quoting Operation Snowdrift.
