They captured the hearts of the nation as we watched their relationship grow through trials and tribulations on Made in Chelsea. Now, Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo are embarking on their next big adventure: parenthood. Now, we’re all invited along for the ride.
The couple document the highs and lows of pregnancy and birth in their new Disney+ series, Raising Chelsea. From Jamie’s fears and doubts over fatherhood to Sophie’s career concerns, the pair get candid about the experience.
Jamie’s fears
It appears that, until recently, fatherhood hadn’t been on the radar for Jamie. Once described as a Peter Pan-esque figure, the boy who won’t grow up, he has now stepped into a new role.
“Becoming a dad is so scary because I think I’m a bit of a control freak and you can’t control that,” Jamie admitted to HELLO!.
“It has totally blown my mind becoming a parent. I was so scared. Was I going to be a good dad? Was I going to love my baby? Was I going to be okay? What was I going to do? And it’s just the best thing ever.”

Jamie reflected on the ‘scary’ reality of becoming a dad
Despite the happiness of the newborn bubble, it’s not been all sunshine for Jamie.
“It was very scary. It feels like mums talk a little bit more typically; dads don’t really talk about it. So I was being very open, especially in the show, about it all, because I wanted dads who watch it, or people, or just men in general to go, ‘Oh, I get what he’s talking about. Okay, he can be open, maybe I can be open about stuff.’”
“We wanted to share everything,” he adds. “We made that deal with ourselves. If we’re going to do this, let’s show everything. And that’s what’s amazing about the show, is that you see everything. The good, the bad, the ugly, the left, the right, the arguments, the love, everything.”
A juggling act
While motherhood has always been on her radar, Sophie still struggled with the idea of balancing her jam-packed career with having a family of her own. As we’re chatting, it’s one of the first times Sophie has left baby Ziggy at home for work. So, a few months in, how is she finding it now?
“It’s definitely still a juggle,” Sophie says. “I love my work and I love what I do and I’m so grateful for all the opportunities. So I really try and be in the moment.
“But it’s a juggle and I feel like every mum feels the same way. You know, you can’t switch off from what they’re doing at home. But I’m getting there.”

The royal seal of approval
Pregnancy and birth can be a scary process, especially for first-time parents. But for Jamie and Sophie, their team came with a royal stamp of approval.
Sophie was looked after by a team at the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, a name which will be familiar to many royal fans. The Princess of Wales gave birth to her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, there – but what did Jamie and Sophie think of the royal-approved spot?
The couple were full of nothing but praise for the team.
“They were so lovely. The midwives were incredible,” Sophie says with a smile. “We felt very looked after.”

Jamie spoke to the emotional support the pair received, too, especially after complications during the birth meant that Sophie had to have a C-section.
“Doctors and nurses, they’re all incredible. It made me feel much better because you were like, ‘Oh, these guys have been through it.’ They weren’t even worried, so it was amazing.”
Advice from their nearest and dearest
As many new parents will know, the questions about the process are endless, so it’s good to have some help from your inner circle. Raising Chelsea documents both Jamie and Sophie’s close relationship with their families, who are always on hand to give some helpful advice:
“[Jamie’s dad] told us not to read any books and just to, you know, with your own baby, like, trust your own instincts, and I definitely feel like we’ve done that,” Sophie reflects.
It’s not just biological families who offered the couple support; some of their Made in Chelsea costars also lent a helping hand, including Jamie’s close friend Ollie Proudlock, who they described as “always the best.”
Jamie even got some practice in, as godfather to Ollie’s son Levi, as well as to costar Spencer Matthews’ daughter, Gigi.
“When your friends have kids, they give you all the advice in the world,” Jamie says, adding that sometimes you’ve got to figure things out on your own. “I always say listen, I mean, listen to it, but do whatever you want to do as a parent.”
Childhood traditions
While the couple are forging their own path in parenthood, there are still traditions from their close-knit families that they want to pass on to their own children.
“We used to always give each other pyjamas or get given pyjamas on Christmas Eve and all wear matching pyjamas,” Sophie reflects. “And we did that this year.”

Jamie and Sophie have their own traditions to pass on to baby Ziggy
Continuing the festive theme, Jamie has his own tradition to add to the mix: “I always open my stocking on my parents’ bed, even when Sophie and I were dating,” Jamie adds.
(Sophie tells me she couldn’t believe this was still happening at the age of 36.)
“I want to carry that tradition on,” Jamie continues. “I want all our kids to be on our bed, even when they’re in their 50s, opening stockings on Christmas.
But will baby Ziggy be following in his parents’ footsteps? Is a life onscreen or at the head of a company on the cards?
“I want Ziggy to be whatever he wants to be,” Sophie says with a smile, before adding to Jamie, “You want him to be a tennis player.”
“Oh, yeah. I’m going to be one of those really intense dads,” Jamie jokes, before adding more seriously, “I think parenting is like a meadow, right? Allow them to do everything. Go and graze, do whatever they want, but just be that fence. “And so if they go too far, just be like, ‘hang on a second, maybe that’s not the best idea’, but allow them to make mistakes, fall out trees, eat different things, whatever they want.
“Just always be there so they know where the barrier is. To keep them safe.”
‘But, why tennis?’ I hear you asking (I certainly was).
“Oh, my God, I love it,” Jamie explains. “I just love the idea of just going to the Australian Open and sitting in that box, and then when he wins, he’s climbing up to me.”
What are Jamie and Sophie like as parents?
Sophie reveals that Jamie is “such a sweet dad”, sharing that he sings to entertain their baby boy. “Every time he does it, Ziggy laughs. Every single time. So if he’s tired or whatever and he’s grumpy, Jamie does that and he’s like, ‘ha ha’.”
“And I made her a photo album,” Jamie adds. “I used Pritt Sticks. I haven’t used Pritt Sticks since I was, like, four. And I did that and made this photo album.”

Sophie shares that Jamie is a ‘sweet dad’
So, what is Sophie like as a mum? Jamie can’t let her get away without some gentle teasing.
“Sophie as a mum is short-tempered,” he jokes, before quickly clarifying, “No, she’s not! I’m joking.
“Sophie as a mum is complete.”
A steep learning curve
With everything they’ve learned throughout the first few months, what advice can the pair offer to new parents?
“It’s amazing, and everything is just a phase,” Sophie says. “I honestly think every single thing lasts about two weeks, and then you’re onto the next phase. So enjoy the cuddles, the newborn cuddles, and when they’re crying nonstop, just know it’s a phase, and that too will pass.”
“And be a team,” Jamie adds. “It’s very easy to be irritated, to be cross, all those things. Just always remain a team, and then that’s all you kind of need.”
But, despite the challenges, there’s been a lot that the pair have treasured.
“I can’t even explain the first week,” Sophie reflects. “It’s just like, you are literally in awe, and you’re in this newborn bubble, and it’s just so special. It’s crazy, and you’re absolutely exhausted, but it’s just incredible. There’s no moments I want to forget.”
Raising Chelsea will be streaming from Thursday 2nd April 2026 on Disney+.
