NEW YORK, NY — Fans of the popular regional grocery chain and “world’s largest dairy store” Stew Leonard’s are apparently not the only ones who can’t get enough of the store’s famous singing animatronics.
Snoop Dogg, an iconic rapper and record producer famous for hits like “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” recently appeared in a video posted to the store’s social media expressing his love for both Stew Leonard’s and some of its robotic performers.
What is Stew Leonard’s?
Stew Leonard’s is a chain of eight grocery stores with locations in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.
The chain’s flagship location opened in Norwalk, Conn., in 1969 and later expanded to two more Connecticut locations in Danbury and Newington.
Stew Leonard’s has since opened more stores East Meadow, Famingdale and Yonkers, N.Y., as well as Paramus and Clifton, N.J.
The stores feature a number of unique details, including imaginative decor partially inspired by Walt Disney World in Florida and seemingly endless free samples for customers.
Continuing a Disney parks-inspired motif, Stew Leonard’s stores also feature animatronic characters who sing or interact with customers in fun ways, such as Cindy Celery and Larry Lettuce (who sing about Dole’s fresh vegetables) or a band of robotic milk cartons called the “Farm Fresh Five.”

Snoop Dogg is a Fan
In his May 2025 “Around the Store with Stew” newsletter, CEO Stew Leonard Jr. noted his daughter, Chase Leonard, met Snoop Dogg in New York City while he was in town promoting “Gin & Juice,” a premium ready-to-drink gin cocktail from his and Dr. Dre’s new premium spirits company.
According to Leonard, Snoop Dogg told his daughter he is “a big fan of Stew’s” and particularly loves the “Avocado Girls” animatronic show that can be found in the produce section of some store locations.
Leonard also noted his daughter wrote the song the Avocado Girls sing, and a comment on one of the store’s videos confirmed she is also the performer customers hear when they press a button to make the robotic performers come alive.
Stew Leonard’s posted a video of Chase Leonard interacting with Snoop Dogg, in which the rapper can be heard asking if she is the performer of the song due to the sound of her voice. The two then begin performing the Avocado Girls song together.
“Is that really you?” Snoop Dogg asks Chase Leonard in the video. “Then I’m your biggest fan.”
“Just a typical day at Stew Leonard’s in Yonkers,” a caption for the video reads, “until Snoop Dogg declares his love for the Avocado Girls! Shoutout to Chase Leonard for earning fandom from a music legend.”
The store also posted a photo of Snoop Dogg and Chase Leonard posing together with a Stew’s shopping bag.
Celebrities Visit Stew Leonard’s
Snoop Dogg is the stage name of Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., a rapper, record producer, actor and television personality who is widely regarded as one of the most famous and influential rappers ever.
Snoop Dogg has released a number of popular albums since the 1990’s, including “Doggystyle,” “Ego Trippin’” and “I Wanna Thank Me.” He has also appeared on a number of tracks by other artists.
Additionally, Snoop Dogg has appeared in various films such as “Half Baked,” “Training Day,” “Starsky & Hutch,” “Scary Movie 5” and “Pitch Perfect 2.” He also voiced characters in animated features such as “Turbo,” “The Addams Family” and “The Garfield Movie,” according to his Internet Movie Database page.
The entertainer is not the first celebrity to visit a Stew Leonard’s grocery or wine and spirits store in recent years.
In 2021, “Breaking Bad” and “Malcolm in the Middle” star Bryan Cranston paid a visit to Stew Leonard’s Wines & Spirits of Norwalk to meet with customers and promote his mezcal line, Dos Hombres.
The following year, Cranston and his “Breaking Bad” co-star, Aaron Paul, paid visits to Stew Leonard’s wine shops in both Norwalk and Paramus, N.J.
Also in 2022, “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “A Few Good Men” actor Kevin Pollak visited the chain’s Norwalk location to promote The Pizza Cupcake, a product the store had been selling and in which Pollak was an investor.
In March of this year, acclaimed actor Chazz Palminteri, famous for roles in “A Bronx Tale” and “The Usual Suspects,” stopped by Stew Leonard’s Wines & Spirits in Norwalk for a bottle signing event and photo opportunity.
A 2013 episode of “Seinfeld” star and creator Jerry Seinfeld’s Netflix series “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” also featured a segment in which Seinfeld visited Stew Leonard’s in Danbury, Conn., on his way to pick up late night television legend David Letterman.
On their way to get coffee, Seinfeld offered Letterman some of the store’s kettle corn and the two briefly discussed their shopping experience there in a joking manner. The episode was even titled “I Like Kettle Corn.”
