A family at the centre of a suspected double murder-suicide at a home in Perth’s affluent western suburbs have been identified.

Police found the bodies of Jarrod Clune, 50, his partner Maiwenna Goasdoue, 49, their sons Leon, 16 and Otis, 14, and three pets — two dogs and a cat — after being called to Mott Cl in Mosman Park about 8.15am on Friday.

It is understood that both boys lived with autism and had attended Christ Church Grammar, a top private school in Perth, where their father is also believed to have studied.

“My condolences to the Clune family. “I’m sure everyone in our year at Christ Church is shocked by the news,” read one tribute posted on social media.

In a previous school publication from 2017, where students highlighted their favourite moments of the year, Otis said he liked to climb, go on the swings and cook, while Leon said he liked to play with friends and explore by the river.

Both children “experienced significant health challenges”, police said.

In 2015, their mother had posed for a photograph with The West Australian for story about the closure of a therapy clinic offering specialised autism services.

‘Do not enter’

Police were called by a visitor who received no response when they arrived at the Clune family home for a pre-arranged visit on Friday morning.

“There’s two parents and two children so we will treat it as a double murder suicide,” detective inspector Jessica Securo said at a press conference.

The biggest clue for police, Securo said, was a note left at the home, although she did not elaborate on its contents or who had penned it.

“It will form part of our investigation,” she said.

The West Australian reports the note “contained words to the effect of ‘don’t enter’ and ‘call police’”.

All family members were found in different parts of the property on the short cul-de-sac, 15km southwest of the CBD, but it is not yet known how long they were there before the horrific discovery was made.

There were “no signs of a violent incident” at the home, police said.

“What I can advise is that there was no weapon used during this incident and the family have no reported family violence matters with police,” Securo said.

‘Tragic incident’

Securo confirmed the family had been working with care services and said the person who contacted authorities was “quite possibly” there to give medical assistance to the two boys.

“That will form part of our investigation as to what they were there to do,” she said.

Detectives are currently speaking with neighbours and looking for CCTV to piece together the family’s final hours.

Securo said it will take some time to pull together the full picture surrounding this incident.

“We urge members of the public to stay away from the area and be mindful that several streets in its vicinity are blocked,” she said.

“This is a highly distressing situation for all involved, from community members to the person that located the family to our first responders.”

St John WA sent several crews to the scene on Friday morning.

One local walking his dog said he was alerted to an incident when lights and sirens were “going off”.

“A lot of activity and some ambulances,” Darren Boult said.

“Probably about five police cars there so there was quite a bit of action.”

Another returning from the beach said there was a “huge police presence”.

“Nice little quiet suburb. Not what we expect to see here,” Geoff Stewart said.

Friends of the couple told 9News they were shocked and said Mai and Jarrod were devoted parents.

“The boys were beautiful,” one friend told 9News in a statement.

Leon and Otis had attended Christ Church Grammar School. The principal today told the school community their thoughts and prayers were with family and friends.
