Comedy icon Peter Kay has admitted that his upcoming spate of shows “really are the last” he’ll do. The stand-up star, 52, opened up about his changing career on Scott Mills’ breakfast show on BBC Radio 2 this morning (November 27), admitting that he still gets nervous before going on-stage. Peter has announced a new series of gigs that will raise money for various cancer charities – but they will be his last.
Speaking on the show, he said: “I always loved making people happy, I still do… it sounds like a cliché but it’s a vocation. I knew I liked making people laugh, but there’s no chance I’ll ever be able to do that as a living.” He told Scott: “These really are the last dates.”
When he was cheekily compared to Dancing on Ice stars Torvill and Dean, he joked: “Oh, I’m not that bad. They’ve retired about 10 times!”
Speaking on The One Show last night, Peter said: “It’s finishing next year, and I am announcing the last lot of shows, but all profits are going to cancer charities.
“They’re all 12 cancer charities which are, Children with cancer, UK Teenage cancer trust, Kidney Cancer UK, Blood Cancer UK, Bowel Cancer UK, Prostate UK, DKMS, Ovarian Cancer Action, Pancreatic Cancer UK, Anthony Nolan, the brain tumour charity, and Breast Cancer UK.”

He added: “Unfortunately, everybody knows someone who’s been affected on that list, and I just hope people support it.
“Come to the shows, that’s why I’m here. You don’t even have to like me, it goes beyond that. This is about supporting those charities.”
