The debate goes back to Season 3, Episode 15 of Friends, The One Where Ross and Rachel Take a Break.

After a misunderstanding makes Ross think Rachel has been unfaithful, the couple decides to pause things. Ross ends up at a bar and later has a one-night stand with a woman named Chloe. The next morning, he learns Rachel wanted to reconcile, but his actions lead to their split.
