The father of the young woman who has long-claimed to be missing Madeleine McCann has revealed his daughter is ‘sick and needs help.’

Polish native Julia Wandelt was before the courts earlier this year on stalking charges after she arrived to the home of the McCanns and contacted their daughter, Amelia.

The 24-year-old told the court that she requested a DNA test after talking to a psychologist about abuse she suffered as a child which led her to believe she was the British tot who went missing in Portugal in 2007.

Ms Wandelt was raised by her mother Dorota, and Dorota’s partner Piotr, after she split from Wandelt’s father Jacek.

Jacek lives with his own partner and their two children, who are 12 and nine-years-old, and has said his elder daughter was a ‘happy, normal girl’ until she was abused by her step-grandfather at 11-years-old.

Peter Ney was convicted in 2012 for the abuse, with Jacek branding the elderly man a ‘monster.’The Polish woman denied claiming to be Madeleine, who was born two years after her, for attention or financial gain. Pic: Kate McCann/PA Wire

Jacek expressed his wishes to have been more involved in his daughter’s life, which was strained particularly after she moved to Wroclaw.

He said: ‘Julia is not bad, she is sick and needs help. Every day I think of her and I pray that she may get well.’

She spoke of how a sketch of a previous suspect in the Madeleine disappearance case looked ‘quite similar to the person who abused me.’

The suspect also had the same surname as Wandelt’s abuser, which she said was a ‘big factor’ in forming her suspicions.

The Polish woman denied claiming to be Madeleine, who was born two years after her, for attention or financial gain.

She said: ‘I just wanted to find out who I am. I could not be able to heal from my trauma if I never fully know who I am, what happened to me and if my parents are my parents.’
