“I said, ‘If ever you want to talk to daddy, you just look up to the sky and start talking to him,’ ” Erika said

Erika Kirk provided an update on how her children are doing nearly two months after the assassination of her husband, Charlie Kirk.

During an interview with Fox News’ Jesse Watters, Erika opened up about her children’s response to the fatal shooting of their father in September.

In a preview of their conversation, which will air in full during Jesse Watters Primetime on Wednesday, Nov. 5, Watters wondered if Erika’s 3-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son are still asking about their dad, and she confirmed that her daughter in particular has questions.

“My daughter continues to ask. But it’s really sweet because I keep explaining to her a few things. And I said, ‘If ever you want to talk to daddy, you just look up to the sky and start talking to him. He can hear you,’ ” she said.

Erika continued, adding, “And I told her, I said, ‘You know, daddy, daddy is in heaven.’ She goes, ‘You think I could go sometime?’ I said, ‘Baby, we will all go one day. We will all go one day.’ “

During a Sept. 12 press conference, Erika broke her silence about her husband’s death and how the children were coping. She addressed the difficulties of explaining a concept like death to a young child, saying that she opted for a different approach.

“What do you tell a 3-year-old? She’s 3,” Erika said. “I said, ‘Baby, daddy loves you so much. Don’t you worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus, so he can afford your blueberry budget.’ “

Charlie died on Sept. 10 after he was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University during a nationwide college tour. Authorities apprehended a suspect — 22-year-old Tyler Robinson — after an extensive manhunt.

Robinson is now facing multiple charges, including aggravated murder. In September, Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray announced that prosecutors would seek the death penalty during a press conference.

In September, Erika was granted a protective order, which barred Robinson from attempting to contact her.

The Kirks decided years ago to try protecting their children by avoiding sharing their names or photos of their faces on social media.

“We have a girl and a boy and it’s no ones business what their names are or their faces,” Charlie explained in a June 2025 video.

Their daughter was born in August 2022, and their son followed in May 2024.

Since Charlie’s death, Erika has picked up where her husband left off by taking over as the new CEO of Turning Point USA, the conservative advocacy organization Charlie founded at 18 years old.

“We will not surrender or kneel before evil,” TPUSA’s board members wrote in a Sept. 18 statement that named her the new leader. “We will carry on. The attempt to destroy Charlie’s work will become our chance to make it more powerful and enduring than ever before.”

In addition to his organizing efforts on high school and college campuses, Charlie hosted a radio talk show, called The Charlie Kirk Show, which made him a close ally of Donald Trump leading up to the 2020 presidential election. He became a prominent voice in the Republican Party, especially for young voters.

Charlie was outspoken about his Christian faith, but also used it as the basis for many of his controversial viewpoints, including anti-LGBTQ+ stances and an outright rejection of transgender people. He often went viral on social media for his debates with more liberal-leaning students at college campuses around the country.
