Matt Tebbutt has broken his silence on being “axed” from MasterChef: The Professionals, just one series after replacing Gregg Wallace. The Saturday Kitchen host joined Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti for the last series but will now only appear as a guest judge, The Sun reports.

Now the 52-year-old has broken his silence with a brief statement, claiming he only ever intended to film one series of the BBC show. Matt wrote: “A lot of lovely people have contacted me about not doing the next series of MasterChef: The Professionals. I was only ever doing one series and I loved judging on it and will continue working with MasterChef.”

Fans rushed to support him, with one commenting on Instagram: “You’re fantastic on it, such a shame.”

While a third posted: “You were brilliant and will be missed!”

A source told The Sun of the axe: “There might be a few eyebrows raised that Matt isn’t staying on given he has just joined.

“He didn’t do anything wrong and will definitely come back to the series as a guest in the future. The Ultimate Christmas Quiz For Children with Cancer UK

“But bosses simply realised that they could get away with just having Marcus and Monica at the helm, especially as their chemistry is great and they have a tight relationship.”

The source added that “three was a bit of a crowd”, while Matt has “taken it in his stride”.

At the time his involvement in the show was announced, Matt said: “It’s an absolute honour to be working alongside these two titans of the food world.

“Their knowledge and uncompromising attitude is now the stuff of legend and I look forward to them taking me under their wing and seeing the chefs get off to a flying start in the competition!”
