Melania Trump‘s bright yellow dress has been branded ‘ridiculous’ by some unimpressed social media users, who also likened her outfit to a banana.

The First Lady, 55, opted to wear the bold gown for the UK State Banquet hosted by King Charles III and members of the Royal Family at Windsor Castle.

Accompanied by her husband, President Donald Trump, Melania stepped out in an off the shoulder number.

She accessorized the dress with a chunky baby pink belt and huge emerald earrings.

The look failed to land social media users though, who were quick to slate it online.

Taking to X one simply said: ‘Melania’s dress – not impressed.’

‘Melania, what’s going on? What’s happening?’ asked another.

‘Omg,’ a third posted. ‘Melania’s dress is hideous! She looks like a giant Easter egg or something in that canary yellow with the purple belt.’

A fourth continued: ‘Why did Melania dress like a banana?’

‘Kate looks amazing,’ added another. ‘Melania looks ridiculous.’

Others were less cruel but suggested that Melania’s dress was ‘too casual’ for the evening’s celebrations.

‘I actually love Melania’s dress, but it feels really simple for a state dinner no?’ said one.

Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘I love Melania, but this dress is hideous on her and inappropriately casual for a state dinner.’

A third praised: ‘Only Melania could pull off a yellow dress and beige belt. I’d look like a banana with bandage wrap. Most beautiful FLOTUS in history.’

‘I love Melania’s dress. Elegant, flattering, chic..,’ said a fourth.

For the prestigious event, King Charles looked smart in his dinner suit while his wife, Queen Camilla exuded elegance in a royal blue silk marocain embroidered dress by Fiona Clare.

She accessorized with a sapphire and diamond tiara from the royal collection.

Melania’s husband, President Trump, kept to traditions in a white tuxedo.

Meanwhile, Prince William took inspiration from his father and wore a similar ensemble. His wife, Kate, dressed in a cream-colored gown with gold lace.

The King toasted Britain’s ‘remarkable bond’ with the US at Trump’s lavish state banquet.

In a warm and witty speech he welcomed the Trumps to Windsor Castle, highlighting the two countries’ ‘unparalleled partnership.’

Charles said: ‘This unique and important occasion reflects the enduring bond between our two great nations.

‘Anchored by the deep friendship between our people, this relationship which, with good reason, we are our predecessors have long called ‘special,’ has made us safer and stronger through the generations.

‘Our people have fought and died together for the values we hold dear… we have celebrated together, mourned together and stood together in the best and worst of times.’

The King did not shy away from referring the War of Independence, saying: ‘My five times Great Grandfather, King George III, for his part, did not spare his worlds when he spoke of the revolutionary leaders.

‘Today, however, we celebrate a relationship between our two countries that surely neither Washington nor King George III could have possibly imagined. The ocean may still divide us, but in so many other ways we are now the closest of kin.’
