Super Bowl LX featured the first British coach to win a championship, and a member of the royal family was there to see it

Super Bowl LX made history for the U.K., and a member of the British royal family was there to see it.

With the Seattle Seahawks’ 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday, Feb. 8, Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde became the first British NFL coach to win a Super Bowl.

Born in London, Durde began his American football career in the British American Football League before coming to the U.S. as part of the NFL’s International Development program in 2005. He played for the Carolina Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs before transitioning into coaching and has coached American football teams in both the NFL and the U.K.

In the stands to see Durde’s historic win was an athletic member of the British royal family: Mike Tindall. The former pro rugby player is married to Zara Tindall, the daughter of Princess Anne — who is currently enjoying her own sporting trip as she represents the royal family at the Winter Olympics in Italy.

Mike shared a silly selfie from the big game, posting a pic of him and a friend in foam football helmets to their Instagram Story.

The Super Bowl took place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., just a few hours north of where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle live in Montecito.

Harry attended a recent Super Bowl with one of his royal relatives. He and his cousin Princess Eugenie were spotted in the stands at Super Bowl LVI, which was held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Feb. 13, 2022.

Mike and Zara recently spent time with one of Harry’s best friends at another sporting event.

In January, the couple traveled to Queensland, Australia, for the Magic Millions Barrier Draw on the Gold Coast. There, they spent time with Harry’s close pal Nacho Figueras and his wife, Delfina Blaquier.

Both couples are ambassadors for the Magic Millions, a two-week equestrian event featuring horse racing, yearling sales and competitions in polo and showjumping. Zara, 44, Nacho, 48, and Delfina, 45, are all equestrians, and Nacho is also an elite polo player, nicknamed the “David Beckham of the polo world.”

All but Mike saddled up for the Barrier Draw, with Mike joking before the race that he knew better than to root against his wife.

“I’ll always back my wife because it hurts less if I do,” he quipped.
