A search is underway in the U.K. for a missing woman after she reportedly got into a taxi last month — and hasn’t been seen since.

Police in Cleveland, England, said in a Feb. 13 Facebook post that 45-year-old Melanie Kett was last seen on Jan. 7.

In the online appeal for information, which has been shared nearly 1,000 times on social media, Cleveland Police asked, “Have you seen missing Melanie?”

Authorities said that Kett, who is from the town of Thornaby, was last seen when she got a taxi to the Middlesbrough area from Field Close in Thornaby.

Kett has had some “intermittent communication with family,” police added, but has otherwise not been seen since Jan. 7.

“[Officers] need to ascertain that she is safe and well,” Cleveland Police said.

A photo shared by authorities shows Kett with dark hair styled in a ponytail and wearing a fuzzy tan coat and a black top as she stood on a beach.

While police have not shared further information about the circumstances surrounding the 45-year-old’s disappearance, friends and family have taken to social media in an attempt to contact Kett — or find out information about her whereabouts.

“Get in touch with someone,” one person wrote on Facebook, pleading with Kett to reach out again.

Cleveland Police have also asked for Kett to reach out if possible, or for anyone with information about her whereabouts to get in contact with them.

“Police are appealing for Melanie to get in touch directly, or for anyone who sees her or knows where she may be, to call 101 quoting reference SE26023259,” the department said in its Facebook post.
