As the search for Today host Savannah Guthrie’s mom Nancy Guthrie continues, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared that the 84-year-old is in need of essential medication.
The search for Savannah Guthrie‘s mom is becoming more dire.
After Nancy Guthrie was reported missing in her hometown of Tucson, Ariz., on Feb. 1, authorities announced that she requires crucial life-sustaining medicine.
“This is an 84-year-old lady who suffers from some physical ailments, has some physical challenges, is in need of medication,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared at a Feb. 2 press conference, “medication that if she doesn’t have in 24 hours, it could be fatal.”
“So, we make a plea to anyone who knows anything about this, who has seen something, heard something, to contact us,” he continued. “Call 911. We don’t need another bad, tragic ending. We need some help.”
He also emphasized that Nancy—who shares the Today co-host, as well as kids Camron Guthrie and Annie Guthrie with late husband Charles Guthrie—does not have any cognitive issues.
“Nancy Guthrie is of a great sound mind,” Nanos explained. “This is not dementia-related. She is as sharp as a tack. The family wants everybody to know this isn’t somebody who just wandered off. Her physical limits are based on just age.”
Savannah Guthrie Mom’s Home Declared “Crime Scene” As Authorities Say She Did Not Leave On Her Own
Although Nancy is mobile, he added that her family said that she “couldn’t walk 50 yards by herself.”
Now, authorities are trying to piece together what happened, with Nanos—who previously confirmed that they were not ruling out foul play after Nancy was last seen on Jan. 31—detailing what led them to believe there was a crime scene.
“We know she didn’t just walk out of there, that we know,” he said. “There are other things at the site, at the scene, that indicate there was a—she did not leave on her own.”
He also assured that officials are working around the clock to find Nancy.

“We expended a lot of resources for missing persons that we typically always do, our search and rescue volunteers, our search-and-rescue teams, other agencies,” he said. “They worked tirelessly all day yesterday and all last night to no avail.”
Following the news, Savannah—who was absent from Today—shared a statement on the morning show.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”
