Nancy was reported missing on Sunday, Feb. 1, and police say the scene at her home was ‘very concerning’

Savannah Guthrie’s longtime friend Jenna Bush Hager is sharing insight after the disappearance of Guthrie’s 84-year-old mom, Nancy Guthrie.

On Monday, Feb. 2, the Today show covered the disappearance of Savannah’s mom, noting that she was last seen on the evening of Saturday, Jan. 31, and reported missing on Sunday, Feb. 1.

“We love Nancy. I know her personally,” Bush Hager said during the four hour’s Today with Jenna & Sheinelle. “And we just want to report too that she takes daily medication and she needs them for survival. She’s without her medication so we are thinking of our dearest, dearest Savannah and her whole family right now. Our prayers obviously go out to Savannah and the entire family.”

The Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously shared with reporters that Nancy has “no cognitive issues” and is “very alert, she’s of good, sound mind.” However, Nanos also noted that Nancy is “not in good physical health.”

Nanos also described the scene at Nancy’s Arizona home as “very concerning” leading a homicide team to investigate in addition to a search and rescue operation.

In a statement to Today, Savannah said, “On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.”

Sheinelle Jones, who filled in for Savannah opposite Craig Melvin during the NBC morning show’s first two hours, also spoke about their coverage of the disappearance during Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.

“When Craig and I did the story, we first reported this morning and we put that phone number up and we can put the phone number up as many times as we can, I thought to myself, ‘Okay, this is when we’re at our best as a community,’ ” Jones said. “The people in this area, in this county, if you know anything if you’ve seen anything, no matter how small — we’ve heard people say that before — this is when people say, ‘You know what, let’s call in, let’s do what we can.’ So we’re sending our prayers but we’re also sending our collective action. Savannah’s mom was last featured on the Today show in Nov. 2025 when Savannah returned home to Tuscon, Ariz., for a special hometown segment.
