Marjorie Taylor Greene is set to step down from her seat in Congress in 2 weeks and there is a growing list of candidates vying for her seat.

However, since there will not be an election scheduled until after she leaves office, there is no official candidate list just yet.

Rep. Greene made the announcement in a 10-minute video she shared on social media, adding that her last day will be January 5.

In the video Greene said she has “always been despised in Washington, D.C., and just never fit in.” She also said her role in politics has cost her valuable time with her loved ones.

There are a lot of things to keep in mind as Greene vacates her seat in Congress.

In a special election for Congress in Georgia there is no primary.

So all candidates, regardless of party, will run against each other on a single special election ballot.

To win the seat a candidate must win at least 50 percent of the vote, plus one more vote.

If none of the candidates get the required number of votes, the top two candidates will face off in a run-off election.

Democrat Shaw Harris is one of the candidates hoping to fill the seat for the 14th District. He says…

“We can’t control how many people are going to get in the race… We don’t even control of when the governor is going to say that we’re going to have this race. “

Harris tells us that his military career taught him the importance of leadership.

“We need a leader here in Northwest Georgia, inside of the 14th District, that’s not only going to listen to the people, but actually take what they tell tell me, and put it into action and then get real results at the end of the day.”

Clay Fuller also announced on Monday that he would be running for Greene’s seat.

“I served in President Trump’s Administration during his first term, I am ready to answer the call again.”

The District 14 seat will be on the ballot in 2026.

That means whoever wins the seat in the special election will hold it just until the end of this term.

“The key piece that I think people need to understand is, regardless of who wins, right now, that individual will be right back in the fight again in November. So what I have to convey to all of my supporters is this, don’t get tired with elections. We have to stay laser focused,” Harris says.

The primary election will be May 19th and the general election will happen on November 3rd.
