Eugene Levy is explaining why he steered clear of asking Prince William about his estranged brother Prince Harry and sister-in-law Meghan Markle during their much-talked-about sit-down at Windsor Castle.
The Canadian actor and comedian, 78, joined the Prince of Wales, 43, for the Oct. 3 episode of The Reluctant Traveler on Apple TV+. Speaking to ITV News in an interview released Oct. 2, Levy said he was not told to avoid the topic of Harry and Meghan — but chose not to bring them up.
“Were you ever told you couldn’t ask questions, for example, about Harry and Meghan? Did you find that was just something you didn’t want to go near?” the reporter asked.
Levy replied, “I was not told I couldn’t ask anything, but it wasn’t really, you know, up to me, to get into that. I had no interest in asking him about that, because it was, you know, very delicate issue and certainly not up to me to get into it.”
“I think there were other things, you know, I could lead the conversation to that might be interesting for him and interesting for the world to hear, but that was something I wasn’t necessarily interested in getting into,” Levy continued.
A rift between the royal brothers exploded into public view in 2020 when Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, stepped back from their royal roles. Relations between the couples have remained strained ever since.

Prince William and Eugene Levy in “The Reluctant Traveler.”.
The Prince of Wales let his guard down like never before during his meetup with Levy, which cameras captured for a Reluctant Traveler episode titled “Living the Royal Life in the U.K.,” which premiered on Oct. 3.
William offered rare comments on how Kate Middleton and King Charles are doing following a difficult year in which they were both diagnosed with cancer, shed light on his children’s lives and shared his wish to bring “change for good” when he becomes King one day.
In another interview, CNN royal correspondent Max Foster asked Levy if he anticipated the conversation with William would become so personal.
“The tone was set in a way, wasn’t it, by Prince William turning up on a scooter? Foster said. “You go on this tour, but it does take this turn, I’m not sure if you expected it to go there,” Foster asked. “He talks about being overwhelmed by the family stress and then you go deep. You talk about the Princess’ cancer diagnosis and how last year was the worst year of his life. Do you think he’s changed, coming out of that?”

Levy, the Schitt’s Creek co-creator and star, replied: “It changes what’s kind of important and he seemed to truly indicate that it did kind of alter his way of thinking.”
Foster pressed further: “But quite profoundly, he said, ‘Safe to say change is on my agenda,’ when you were talking about the future of the monarchy. What do you think he meant by that?”
“My sense is that it may be speaking toward what will happen when he becomes King and what the tone of his monarchy will be like, and it might be something, the likes of something we haven’t seen. The world hasn’t seen,” Levy responded.
Prince William’s episode of The Reluctant Traveler is now streaming on Apple TV+.
